Kat Von D: Shade + Light eye palette (Review & Swatches)

shadeeye

Disclaimer : I paid (with my hard earned money) for this palette … Why did I put the disclaimer at the beginning of this post, you will soon understand 😉

To the question : Is it REALLY worth the hype? YES, 是, oui, ja, sì, ano,’ae… You all have seen this palette, or at least heard about it and at this point, you are probably tired of hearing about it. When it first came out, I went to my local Sephora store with the firm intention to buy it. I kept looking at it and I really thought it was cute but a little bit boring: the display was right beside the Innerstellar eyeshadow palette and at this point I almost bought this one instead, so I left empty-handed… Months later, with all the fuss, it grew on me and on a Saturday morning with 10% off at Sephora and 16% on Ebates, this one became a no-brainer and the rest is history. Yes I probably have similar shades in other great palettes but come on, how great is it to have every matte neutral shades you’ll ever want in one stunning palette and that, for YEARS to come. It’s not a trendy palette it’s a MUST in every makeup stash. (I told you you would be wondering if it was sponsored or something like this)

The Good:

♥  12 quality basic Matte eyeshadows. It has every matte shadow you could need for years.

♥ The formula is excellent. For me these eyeshadows are way better then those in the previous Kat Von D palettes I own, and there is minimal to no fallout. (I have to admit that I always tap my brush to remove the excess powder, it’s a good habit to have!)

♥ GREAT color pay off. (Last all day)

♥ Highly Pigmented. (VERY little goes a long way)

♥ The eyeshadows are buttery and blend like a dream.

♥ NO creasing whatsoever. (I do always prime my eyelids)

♥ The colors in this palette will go with any skin tone and they are beginners friendly .

♥ This palette allows you to create everyday and dramatic looks.

♥  Amazing bang for the buck. (see my note at the end)

♥ The packaging is to die for (Yes it’s important to me, I’m a sucker for nice packaging)

Cruelty-Free Unknown-1

The NOT so Good:

♥ NONE ♥

Note: If you are not familiar with Kat Von D eyeshadows you have to know that it’s a powdery formula, so there is some product kick off, so tapping the brush like I already said is a MUST.

Bottom Line:

One of my best makeup acquisition to date. I have to admit that I didn’t need another NEUTRAL palette but KVD knocked it out of the park with this one. It’s no surprise that I highly recommend this phenomenal stunner. I would even say that you NEED this in your life, it is a MUST. This palette may not look exciting but man (woman!!), these colors are life changers. Hooded eyes girls meet your BFF. (I know I sound like an infomercial but I’m really impressed!!!)

2015 is a good year for someone who is just starting in the marvelous world of makeup. I wish palettes like this one would have existed when I first started, I would have saved a ton of money unfortunately spent on crappy matte eyeshadows.

Note: I know that on a budget, 46$US or 55$CND is a ton of money, I get it trust me. But take it from my experience, you will pay more for 12 “ordinary” drugstore single matte eyeshadows on sale. Remember that I paid 26% less than the regular price, you can surely do the same. Since it’s not a limited edition palette wait for november when Sephora has their VIB 20% sale + at least 4% on Ebates !!! It’s one of the RARE palette that I will hit pan on at least 8 eyeshadows in the next 5 years. (Yes! I believe no matter what they say, that an eyeshadow palette, IN MY OPINION, is good for at least 5 years).

Thank you for understanding my “over the top” excitement😜

  1. With your endorsement, I am officially putting this on my wish list! I really hope this is not limited edition or they don’t discontinue it before 2016 rolls around. IN the mean time, it will be on my wish list on Sephora! 😀 I have the Ladybird palette and it is superb! (that reminds me, I should pull it out and show it some love!)
Thanks so much for your thorough review! 🙂

    1. You have time to buy it since it’s a permanent palette !!!
I’m sure that with the success of matte palettes right now, every brand will soon come out with their own version (maybe a Matte Chocolate Bar 😉!!!)
Have a really nice day xoxo

    1. Seriously this palette is a must for everybody BUT especially for us hooded eyes girls 😀
Really good quality matte eyeshadows are so hard to find … The Tartelette is also really nice (more pink).
      Lots of xo’s

  3. Yay! I don’t know why, but I was scared you wouldn’t love it as much as I do. I swear, so far this is my favorite palette of all time and will 100% be in my 2015 favorites (can’t believe we’re already half way to 2016)!

      1. I was convinced that UD would do a Naked Matte palette for the 4th one! I’m so shocked that they went with something smokey… I’m wearing the KVD palette today too 🙂 It’s by far my favorite 🙂 Oh no! I see you had to follow again, maybe I’ll show up now!? I changed my domain so there have been a few glitches 😦

      2. I think you did the right move Kaily, having your name is the way to go with blogging and YouTube (since I’m sure you’ll be BIG one day!!!) Maybe a Matte Chocolate Bar is in store ?!? UD Smoky palette is so not for me !!! xoxo

      3. Awe thanks, it would be nice but who knows what’s in the future 🙂 Ah! I would love a matte chocolate bar! They Natural Matte palette that they released has been such a big hit that they just might 🙂 But I’m pretty sure I’ll be passing on the Smokey palette too.

  4. Your excitement pretty much jumps of the page. I love the look of all the colors and I agree: this is perhaps a little boring but a must have palette 😀
