Sephora Favorites Superstars 2015

Probably Surely THE one set I am the most excited about since the beginning of the year. Right off the bat, my first impressions were not that favourable, I was even a bit disappointed. When you look at it, it does not say WOW: No bling bling, no pizzazz … very boring! But when you take a closer look, there are fabulous products inside !!!

Beautyblender original

♥This little number as been copied so many times but it still remains the best one on the market (real Techniques is quite good too). Applying foundation is a breeze with this sponge. To try it is to adopt it !!!

Benefit They’re Real! Mascara

♥ I’m not going to lie it’s not my favorite but it’s a universally solid mascara.

Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight

♥ I need to play more with this one. However, I’m not seeing myself using it this much. I always feel that creamy highlighters are messing with my foundations/powders. At the moment, it is not my favorite but I think that it will be more suitable for spring or summer with its light color and its shiny attribute. Will do an update on this one. For now, I’m totally rocking the most beautiful shine in the inner corner of my eyes, thanks to this stick.

Sephora Favorites Superstars Holiday 2015

Lancôme DRAMA LIQUI-PENCIL Extreme Longwear Eyeliner in Noir Intense

♥ I really thought that this product would be a huge disappointment but for now, I am  pleasantly surprised! If this pencil would have a twist up packaging, it would be perfect. When it dries, this thing doesn’t budge (NO FLAKING) and application is effortless as it glides on so easily. If it wasn’t included in sets like these, I would have never bought a Lancôme eyeliner.

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Highlight (01)

♥ I’ve been wanting to try this highlight powder for so long but I didn’t want to buy a full-size and be underwhelmed, so I was ecstatic to find it in this set. Verdict: I Loveeeeeee it!! It’s subtle enough on my fair skin that it gives a glow but not so ‘glowy’ that you look like Tinkerbell’s sidekick (Not that I would mind!!!). There is no glitter, it’s just a sheen. Since a little seems to go a long way, this deluxe sample will be with me for a very long time…

MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer Hydrating Primer / Base step 1 skin equalizer

♥ I love this primer; it totally agrees with my combination skin type, mixed with dry patches. I’m 100% certain that in our cooler/wintery extreme weather, it will be very useful.

NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia

♥ Nars eyeshadows have been more misses than hits for me. This one has beautiful colors without a doubt, totally a WOW factor there, but what about the formula?!? Contrary to other Nars shadows I own, its formula is really impressive: it applies easily, stays on for a good 10-hr without any alteration during the day. If I apply it wet, I’m good to go for an allnighter 😉. Colorwise, It’s intense alright; a little bit too intense for work, more intended for glamour nights or Christmas season. I don’t see myself purchasing a whole Dual Intensity eyeshadow palette simply because it’s probably the only color I really want with this kind of formula… Perfect for when I want a VaVaVoom makeup look.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water

♥ You can read my original review (HERE). Update: Initially, I really liked the primer water, but now I love it. I use it daily, before & after I’ve put on my makeup. I love that Sephora included the travel size which makes it perfect for my purse.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Intense Black

♥ Stila is hands down one my favorite liquid eyeliner brand. The felt tip makes it super easy to apply and once set, the formula remains perfect. I own so many of them that I attest to the longevity of these liquid eyeliners. Some have been in my collection for maybe 2 years and they still feel new!!!

Tarte the sculptor contouring face slenderizer in park ave princess

♥ I am already very familiar with this product since it was included in the “Bronze Bares All” summer set. At first, I didn’t use it very often since I prefer a powder to contour, but it grew on me and I really adore it now. I find it especially perfect for contouring my nose and jaw line. I have to tell you that a little practice was necessary to master this creamy formula.

Tarte The slenderizer bamboo contouring brush

♥ This super small brush is very well made and it’s perfect for placing the product. In fact I will go on saying that to really carve my cheekbones it’s the best brush I’ve tried. I must say however that I have to blend with another brush to assure a natural effect.

Touch in Sol Stretchex Stretch Lash Effect Mascara

♥ I don’t know about you but this brand is totally new to me. I will put an update on how I really feel about this mascara when I’ve tested some more. My first impressions are that it’s a clump free lengthening formula BUT who doesn’t add volume. I love when my lashes look full so this is a little disappointing but the length is quite phenomenal.

Urban Decay Eye shadow in Lounge (brick red w/ green shift)

♥ I don’t have to praise UD eyeshadows, as you are probably all aware that they are one of the best brand in the business. No creasing, blend like a charm, long wearing, highly pigmented. Personally I love UD shimmery shadows (more than there matte) but what is particularly interesting about this one is the uniqueness of the shade. Most of us don’t have anything like this one in our collection. I do own my fair share and this one I’m telling you is special. It’s really the most beautiful reddish/green I’ve seen. (Not that there is a lot of these running around anyway!!!)

Sephora Favorites Holiday 2015

finalthoughts

I’m quite happy with this set. I have to admit that I’m missing the usual favourites: a nice blush, a lip product, some nail polish; with that included, it would have been a spectacular set. Two mascaras, 2 eyeliners & 2 eyeshadows is a particular combination (wandering why the duplicates) and disappointing in a way but still, all the products inside are more than enjoyable for a fair value for money. However, when comparing to the previous years, the 2015 “Superstars” holiday set edition is somewhat of a deception (especially the 2013 edition). Let the past be the past and just enjoy this one. As previously stated, this is a star without the Superstar status but the truth is that all the products, except maybe the Clinique chubby stick, will be used to the max. Even if previous year sets had a more sensational value, I still recommend this set! With all the sure bets included in this Sephora Favorites Superstars, combined with those stunning two eyeshadows, it justifies spending your hard-earned money!!! Aren’t they to die for…

Note: If I could, I would like to put my hands on this exclusive set, available at JC Penney’s Sephora boutique.

  1. I can’t believe I didn’t see this set! Maybe it’s like you said, it’s not very wow looking online and I probably just skipped over it. But looking at your post, it looks pretty wow to me. Maybe it’s your awesome photography skills lol XD. Besides all the other amazing products in there, I can’t believe there’s a FULL SIZE Beauty Blender in there. Definitely a great value!

  2. Oooh I want that NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia!
And yes it’s funny that Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water is cheaper in Canada than the US – that won’t last long I’m sure!
I agree – creamy highlights are tricky to apply – I probably wouldn’t apply that stick directly from the stick to my face, I’d dab onto my fingers and pat onto my cheeks.
That Lancôme DRAMA LIQUI-PENCIL Extreme Longwear Eyeliner give me HOPE. One of my all time favourite eye liners is from Lancôme but a limited edition formula (Khol in Love). I hope this is similar – I’ll have to go swatch it! (this must be new? Never heard of this before – trust me, I’ve looked)
UD Lounge is gorgeous but I find the red-tone makes me sickly looking – I have a few shades like this and everytime I mostly just like swatching them on the back of my hand but not wear it on my face! 😛
There’s such a WIDE variety of product in this set – it’s pretty amazing. I’m sure if I wasn’t on my no-buy, I’d be tempted to get this. I agree, very strange there’s no lip product in this set at all (but I don’t mind lol)

  3. Wow what a great value! Both of the shadow picks they did for this box are beautiful! It looks way better than the (is that picture of the 2013 one!?) other one picture at the bottom!
