Sephora|How to get FREE products ?

VIB Rouge Perks (Free Stuff)

This post applies to everyone around the globe who are lucky enough (in practice, but unlucky for the wallet !!!) to have a Sephora nearby (in store or online). I really think that my fellow Canadians should read this one carefully.

As we all know (I’ve been telling you for awhile now!!), living in Canada sometimes feels like a “third world makeup country”! Not only do we have Frozen-esque panoramas for 6 months, but worst of all, big brands don’t ship to us or if they do, it’s expensive like hell. I was even reading that Ulta has no intention to expand their business on Canadian soil 😢. With little exceptions, Canadian beauty addicts mainly buy at Sephora .

Sephora VIB ROUGE Free Stuff

Three years ago, while buying skincare/makeup products as gifts for friends, my mom and myself, I became a VIB Rouge member. If you don’t know, VIB Rouge means that I spend at least 1000$ during the calendar year. I know 1000$ is excessive but you know what, when families and friends use all the same card for their purchases, it’s easy to rack up points… By the way, that is what all beauty fanatic should do.

So VIB ROUGE member then what?  Let me tell you the benefits of being a top level member (BTW I wish it was called VIB Pink: instead of those all red glamorous lipstick, it could be those softly pink ones, but that is just some wishful thinking I guess!!!). Sephora has 3 levels of members…

Of course, the unlimited access to the beauty studio & the Rouge special events are nice added bonuses but mostly, the best perk is the free shipping!!! If you are a VIB Rouge member and always shop in store, stop right there. You may want to go and have a look at all those new trends or newly available products, and but for Pete’s Sake, shop online. Why? For the 3 free samples you get with every order AND mainly for a free, chosen Deluxe Sample with every 25$ purchase. Being a Rouge member also means that often enough, Sephora sends you a Special Code email for a gift with purchase. Here are some examples …

With all the free stuff I’m getting, I haven’t bought any eye cream, primers (face or eyes), lip products, mascaras, etc… for the whole year. Seriously go in store to look around but shop online for the added bonus. If you know your stash well, you can prioritize a lot of things and then your VIB Rouge status becomes really interesting. Also don’t forget, when buying online, try using Ebates (💰ka-ching💰). By the way, I’m not affiliated with the brand (or Sephora for that matter) but this thing is legit, so why not grab a few bucks when possible –  that is if you don’t forget to use it).

Hope it was helpful

  1. Ulta honestly said that?! Damn them! The whole Target fiasco probably scared them off.

I’m a bit away from getting Rouge again this year but between Xmas presents and the 20% sale I should have it covered. Your collection of free products is impressive! Since you share a card do you split them between your family or do they let you have them all? 🙂

      1. I actually achieved Rouge last year so I’m trying to make sure I get it again because I love the extra samples and free online shipping! Not that I buy a lot online, but if I want to…. 😉

  2. Aw I love Ulta but why does it not love me back? 😦 😥
Actually, can you believe that I’m not VIB Rouge? I got close last year and I decided it wasn’t worth it for me to spend anymore money at Sephora to hit that level. I do not find the Rouge perks THAT much better than just VIB and the qualifying spend gap between the 2 levels ($350 vs $1000) seems not balanced to me. I prefer shopping at The Bay or even Shoppers Drug Mart for high end cosmetics. I mainly shop at Sephora when it’s the VIB sale for 20% off the whole store and some exclusive brands I can’t get elsewhere. I just think their points reward system is LAME compared to either Bay or SDM. Samples are just ok to me… I’d rather get to choose free stuff with my rewards with HBC rewards or Optimum Points. Maybe that’s just me? I’m actually quite excited to see what kind of loyalty programs Nordstrom or Saks will bring when they open next year!

    1. Your situation is different because you live in Toronto where there is way more choices than in Quebec. My SDM & The Bay have just a few interesting brands (Clinique, Lise Watier, Clarins, Elizabeth Arden & Estee Lauder). I agree that their system could be so much better; in fact, Ulta seems to even have more perks plus cash back.

  3. Yessss girl! I’m so close to Rouge status and am so looking forward to more gifts with purchase. I whole heartedly agree with you about shopping online. I honestly find half the time I shop in store the cashiers never even give samples despite having VIB status. And yes to Ebates! There’s nothing like when the return is at 8% and you’ve got a promo code for a gift set PLUS you get the 3 free samples and free shipping!! xo J

    1. If I hade more choices, maybe I would shop elsewhere. But for my needs, I must say that I’m pretty satisfied with Sephora (and I’m sure they’re satisfied having me as a client) 😉

  4. You are making me even more jealous of the fact we don’t have Sephora over here (although my budget is very happy about it) 😉
They really have a great rewards program and awesome offers 🙂

      1. We have all the European brands, but we are seriously lacking in all those amazing American brands. Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier only made it here very recently and I am still waiting for Nars and Mufe for example.

      2. I recently discovered they have opened a counter only 20 minutes away, used to be online only. I will be going there next weekend (I can hear the bank account sigh already). Thanks for the tips!
