Empties | Will I repurchase ?

I hate having empties laying around and often they end up in the garbage before I had time to write about them! But since I like these posts & videos so much, I kept a couple of empties, just to critic them and to inform my lovely followers  🙂

Note: If you see me mentioning that it’s a cruelty-free product or not, it’s because, starting January 2016, I’ll slowly transition to cruelty-free products exclusively, starting with all body care, makeup brushes (& cleansers), hair care & perfume. I’ll use up my products in hand and won’t repurchase if they are testing on animals. Not preaching guys but just making personal changes. Hope that by the the end of next year, all my makeup inventory will contain just cruelty-free brands.

Green Beaver Candy Cane  * Body Wash *

Honestly, I have no idea where I bought this item but when I did, I bought 4. I found them when I started decluttering and, I rapidly put them to use. Truth be told, I use Christmassy scent all year long; there is nothing better than Candy Cane in July. I fell madly in love with this body wash and after my lucky discovery, I’m really glad I bought 4 🙂 100% certain that in the near future, I will buy again from this Canadian, family-owned company.

♥ Biodegradable, gluten-free & mostly cruelty-free

The Body Shop Olive * Body Scrub *

I’ve been buying The Body Shop scrubs for ages. They are one of the best and even by scrubbing 3 times/week, this 300ml lasts at least 2 months (easily). I always stock up when they are on mega sale after Christmas. I love Olive but my all-time favourite is Brazil Nut. I might try the Glazed Apple Sugar Scrub this year that my friend Kaily (Hello Kaily) is so found of.

♥ This company is cruelty-free

Yves Rocher Organic Vanilla * Eau De Toilette *

Seriously, I must have bought 10 bottles like this one in my lifetime. Vanilla is, hands down, my ultimate fragrance. It’s surprisingly good, affordable (50% off on your birthday month) and the smell lasts for hours. Since I won’t be buying this anymore, I found the best replacement in Lavanila (Vanilla Coconut & Vanilla Grapefruit). These smell 10 times better than the one from Yves Rocher (double yay!)

This company is testing on animal 😔

Dr Jart+ Premium BB Beauty Balm *SPF 45*

Thanks to Tarababyz for letting the world know about this fantastic BB Cream. This product has been in my everyday summer routine. What more to ask than this mixture of moisturizer, foundation & suncare protection. I’m crazy about this product. Even the application is easy and effortless: I put a tiny amount between my fingers and I apply it using my hands.

Note: It’s not a cheap product by all means but one tube was enough to last all summer.

♥ Amen this product is cruelty-free (Otherwise I would have write directly to the company and start harassing them)!!

Make Up For Ever HD High Definition *Powder*

This powder was part of my “Project pan with a twist ” HERE . Right off the bat, this powder took me forever to finish. I may have found new favourite from Nars & Laura Mercier but when I started to focus on finishing this bad boy, I realized how much I love this powder. It kept me matte all day long and sets my makeup beautifully.

♥ I BEG MUFE to change their politics and please, pretty please, stop animal testing.

Note: When I will decide to become 100% cruelty-free, not buying MAC & MUFE products will be the hardest step. Some bad mouths (including BeardMan) could argue that I have enough eyeshadows to play with for the next 10 years 😉

Annabelle Eye Make-up Remover  *Lotion*

This came with a value set that I bought a while ago (on sale of course!!!). I was so surprised at how much I love this remover. It doesn’t sting (non-irritating), is formulated without oil & really does a good job at taking off regular mascara without having to rub like crazy or to use half the bottle to get results. I saw these in some of this year’s Christmas sets, so it’s fair to assume that I will have a couple more of them after the Holidays .

♥ This Canadian brand is cruelty-free.

Revlon Brow Fantasy Dark Blonde

Couldn’t get rid of this product soon enough. I HATED it. The pencil section kept on breaking on me even if I was using it so gently, and the gel part is all gummy with no real colour payoff. Obviously I won’t be buying it even if it still exists??!!! Revlon has never been my company of choice, so not a big deal to boycott them for the rest of my life (and more…)

Animal testing big time.

L’Oréal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes *Waterproof*

You can read my previous review HERE. Probably one the best waterproof mascara I’ve bought. Superb to use on my lower lashes. This item is discontinued so I need to find a new one. Any suggestions???

♥ L’Oréal is NOT cruelty-free.

Small changes can make a difference at the end of the day !

  1. Going cruelty-free is an awesome goal for 2016! I’m sure it may be tough at times when new products come out from non-CF brands, but at the same time it’s so much fun discovering new brands – and there are so many that exist out there that we don’t know about!

There are lots of companies that are CF, and here’s the list that PETA recognizes: http://features.peta.org/cruelty-free-company-search/cruelty_free_companies_search.aspx?Donottest=8&Product=0&Dotest=-1&Regchange=-1&Country=-1&Keyword=

    LOTS of ’em! 😀

  2. Brilliant post Ingrid & it’s fantastic you’re aiming toward a cruelty free collection huni – why these companies are still doing this is beyond me as there’s now need for it. So sad. Just look at that wee beagles face 😦 So many things I’d love to try out here huni… you’ve just bumped my wishlist up a good few items lol Karen xoxoxox

    1. I saw a footage of a testing lab full of Beagles. All of them had their vocal cords taken off so they could not scream (out of pain) … That was a turning point for me. I’m going with small steps at first and hopefully purchasing all cruelty-free beauty items & other by the end of 2016.
It will be a fun challenge to discover new companies. Sorry to have bumped a little bit your wishlist xxx

      1. Oh my gosh that’s absolutely horrific Ingrid. Why is there a need to be so horrendously cruel? I just don’t get that so many companies can develop successful ranges without the cruelty and yet others still pursue such an unnecessary horrific option.
Small steps is totally realistic, I’m very aware about what I purchase now though it’s still a work in progress. Trying to be as aware as I can. Having a little Beagle doggy of my own I just find it so hard to imagine him going through such torture.
Good on you for making such a great step!! You’ll have to keep us posted with all the new companies you discover 🙂 XXX

  3. Great Post! I think you are going to love the Lavinila scents. I just got the Makeup Forever HD powder and I see why your bottle is clean. That stuff is wonderful, but now I feel guilty about having it. I didn’t know they tested on animals :-(.

    1. Thank you 🙂 I already love Lavanila so much !!! Don’t feel bad about the MUFE powder, small steps are better than no steps . I’m not at all cruelty-free with my makeup stash but hopefully getting there one day …
      Thanks for your comment xxx

    1. CF is the way to go. With the growing number of people making small changes , better are our chances that the major companies stop the animal testings all together in the near future. You will find the Annabelle remover to be quite good 🙂 xxx

    1. That’s exactly what I will do !!! Small changes are better than no changes & I want to be part of the ending of animal testing 😦 Glad to know that you are doing the same sweetie xxx

      1. I think that my makeup and skincare collections are 100% cruelty-free, and my haircare is about 90% cruelty-free now, just have a few hair products that seem to be lasting forever (I have a hairspray that was a gift and I swear that I’ve had it for at least two years, haha)

      2. OMG ! I have so many stuff to finish before I’m all cruelty-free 😦 1 or 2 years I’m guessing … I will be on a low buy in 2016 so it will be time, to used up my stash.
What’s your favourite skincare lines ???

      3. I was getting Paula’s Choice online when the exchange rate wasn’t so terrible. That is the only reason why I haven’t been buying from them these days.
Ren is so lovely, but it is a little expensive. The best way to try them out is to get one of their gift sets and see if their line works for your skincare needs. 🙂

      4. It’s so sad that we don’t have that many choices to begin with and with our poor $$$ we now have even less 😦
I will try REN for sure. I need to used up what I currently have before trying a new line xxx

  4. I cannot believe so many big brands still test on animals. It is just cruel and unnecessary!! Thankfully the EU has banned all cosmetic animal testing, but let’s hope the rest of the world quickly follows. Cannot believe MUFE still does when there are simply better alternatives.

  5. Awe, look who’s working on switching over! Good for you 🙂 Any little bit helps. Not everything I use is CF, just my makeup. It takes time for sure! And yesssss try the glazed apple! It’s so amazing ❤

    1. That’s what I’m thinking too, if everyone would even choose a cruelty-free product half of the time … Things would change so rapidly !!!
I saw a footage and it was awful !!!
I’m already Vegan, I’m adopting all my pets … This is the next step 🙂
I’m going to smell the Glazed Apple today.

  6. Good for you for transiitioning to cruety-free! 🙂 So what are you going to do with all the stuff you’re going to get rid of?
Isn’t it funny how you don’t rememeber where you bought stuff? I sometimes just randomly find things in my stash and honestly canNOT recall where it came from lol. You know you have too much stuff when…
The Body Shop Glazed Apple collection smells SO nice. I want it I think….
I’m adding that Dr Jart BB cream to my wish list!
Also adding the Annabelle remover to my list… always want to support Canadian brands.

    1. I’m not getting rid of any of my makeup, what’s done is done !!! (body care , brushes, cleansers, perfume is better than nothing at first … The worst will be my MAC Paint Pot 😢) Did you ever tried RMS ??
I saw a very graphic footage about animal testing and I cannot look the other way after watching it …
Today , I have to go to the mall and smelling the Glazed Apple collection is my # 1 priority !🍎
The low-buy will be a breath of fresh air and a way to clean up my ridiculous stash !!!
You will love Dr Jart+ BB Cream, but ask for a sample at Sephora because I think the shade could be too light for you ???

      1. Hmm I was hoping you’d sell me some of your palettes LMAO!
Good call about getting a sample of Dr Jart first. I’m around NC20 so we’ll see! Such is a challenge of BB creams and their limited colour offering.
Hmm I saw graphic footage of mass animal farming and it turned me to vegetarianism a long time ago but I couldn’t sustain it. I try to be more conscious of where my meats come from (we shop at local markets or free range).
