Since January 1st 2016, I’ve been on a low-buy. Surprisingly enough this is the most exciting challenge I’ve tackle since starting my blog a little over a year ago.
Why the Low-Buy?
Why the low-buy? Simple: my makeup/skincare/body care collection is out of control. It’s to the point that a lot of products will end up going bad because I don’t have the time to use them. Yes unfortunately, products have an expiration date. I’ve become somewhat of a hoarder, more so because of the blog! I’ve made the worst beginner blogger’s mistake: buying stuff for a review purpose or just because I thought it is what my followers would be interested to read about (BIG MISTAKE !!!).
First and foremost, my blog is a hobby: it will never be anything else. Opportunities may come my way in the future but it will still remain the most amazing hobby, Period! That being said, I want 2016 to purge the stash I already have. Decluttering will also be a big part of this year: every month I will go through a category and try (or retry) every product I own. I will then classify each and every one, according to the internationally-knowned Ingrid factor 😂(term used just to differentiate the ones I prefer). I will then keep those at the top of my list and I will pass along to my nieces those that sadly did not make the cut. My goals is that, at the end of 2016, I will have cut my stash at least in half (even a 2/3 would be better!).
Will this affect my blog? I don’t think so… I have plenty of subjects and so many other passions/hobbies to talk about that I’m sure that my blog will just be as interesting to read as before. Just a reminder: everybody should BLOG about subjects/products they themselves would read about, not what you think people want to read… The difference is enormous !
My low-Buy budget !
My annual budget will shrink to 1600$ for makeup and beauty products. You may think it’s a lot, but trust me I’ve spent a few bucks more than this last year (I fully understand that for a lot of you guys the total amount that I will spent is still quite large)!!! From January 2016 ’til August I don’t want to spend more than 100$ per month and from September ’til December 200$ per month. If by any chance my monthly budget is not spent, the amount saved will be transfer to the following month. And instead of monthly favorites, I thought it would be fun to do a recap of my monthly spending…
What is include in this low-buy!
My low-buy is on every makeup items and tools, and every skincare & hair care products. It also is all about body stuffs & candles. To resume, this will be affecting all future beauty purchases. I can tell you right away that this low buy has already paid off and is perfect for my wallet and my collection since I didn’t buy anything (0$) on any boxing day/after Christmas specials.
The purpose of this Low-buy is also to reevaluate my needs and to focus on products that I REALLY want. We all know the price of makeup and unfortunately, 100$ doesn’t get us far. I’m sure I will have to restrain myself and be imaginative to get the most out of every dollar spent… That’s where my frugal instinct will pay off (I hope!!). It will be interesting to see the evolution of my current collection; lots of empties are in the forecast! Makeup junkies are a rare breed that thrives on emptying products and are super happy when we hit pan because it rarely happens !!!😂
Note: I will also extend into 2016 my No-Buy clause on Lip products and establish a No-Buy on perfume and fragrances. BeardMan pleaded for a No-Buy on eyeshadow palettes but, this one will never happen…
Who’s joining me on this low-buy???
