Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sensual Skin Enhancer is one of these products that can be so tricky to use that unfortunately, it will not ever be mentioned in a monthly or obviously yearly favourite list. I don’t regret buying it at all even if it doesn’t exceed expectations nor makes me look like Charlize Theron after one use but, once you get the hang of it, nothing comes close to its results! Let me explain …
What it is:
A waterproof makeup enhancer for the face that provides sheer and complete coverage and hydrates the skin.
What it does:
Cover all your bases with The Sensual Skin Enhancer. This all-in-one, waterproof formula delivers complete coverage when used as a concealer, highlighter, an allover foundation, or to contour your features. Infused with jojoba and honey, it works to hydrate the skin, and it is formulated with minerals that support the skin and is sweat proof and transfer resistant for full coverage and long-lasting wear.

At Sephora (online only) : 48$US (58$CND)
♥ The product comes in 16 shades, ideal for fair to very deep skin tones (For reference mine is SX03)…
♥ It is VERY concentrated. I am not exaggerating when I say that a pea sized amount is too much for your entire face. This product will last me a year or even more!
♥ Amazing for spot concealing. This product has an impressive concentration of pigments.
♥ Even if it contains Mineral Oil (which has cause me to break out in the past), I have no problem with this product!
♥ This skin enhancer is truly waterproof; it doesn’t budge under rain or during warmer temperatures whatsoever.
♥ Yes, it’s a bit pricey for the amount that you get, but I feel it is well worth it if you are the right fit for it.
♥ This is a multi-purpose product that can be use as a concealer, a foundation or to cover pimples or discolorations.
♥ This product is not tested on animals.
♥ It’s not a product for beginners … It’s a little hard to work with but once you get used to it, it has the properties to become one of your favorite items in your collection!
♥ The jar is tiny (o.63oz) don’t be surprised!!!
♥ If you put too much product, it will look cakey, it will crease and emphasize your pores! (Again, just an itsy bitsy quantity is all it takes)
♥ In my opinion, it’s not a product made for oily girls (or boys) and mature skin.
♥ Warning: Mineral Oil can cause breakouts!
♥ This product contains a small amount of fragrance, but the aroma is so subtle that it didn’t bother me.
♥ Shade matching can be tricky since it’s an online item only.
♥ I would have preferred a squeezing tube or a container with a pump for hygiene reason instead of a jar (I have to admit that this little jar is cute though)!!!
First, don’t let this small jar fool you: with its concentration and formula, this product will last FOREVER, even with daily applications. Personally since it’s very thick, I like to sheer it out with moisturizer or some kind of primer or sunscreen. It’s the perfect product for summer since it’s waterproof. Even if it’s a little pricey, its versatility makes it a wonderful product to add to your collection.
I ended up buying many other Kevyn Aucoin products after using this beauty. The love felt from this wonderful cream is contagious as, so far, every single product I have used from his line is amazing. I am totally a convert!
Fun Fact: The first time I applied The Sensual Skin Enhancer as a foundation, my boyfriend said: “What did you put on your face, it’s really cakey”. Two hours later: “I really don’t like your makeup today”. Four hours later: “You have all sorts of weird stuff around your mouth”!!! I guess it’s fair to say that with this cream, less is more 🙂
How to use :
I recommend a lot of practice to find what kind of application works for you, this is what works for me as a foundation:
Step 1: Apply a good moisturizer and let it sink.
Step 2: Smooth your favourite primer all over your face. (My favourite lately has been MUFE Step 1-Hydrating Primer).
Step 3 (light coverage): Place less then a pea-sized amount of product on the back of your hand and add a drop of face oil, sunscreen or moisturizer. Mix well and apply with a damp Beauty Blender or your hands.
Step 4 (optional): I slightly powder my t-zone.
Thanks for stopping by my beautiful friends xxx
