How to Clean and Sanitize your Beauty Blenders Properly

How to properly clean your beauty blender !

Unfortunately for us makeup lovers, after just one use of a Beauty Blender (or another sponge-type applicator), we become instantly hooked. It’s impossible not to fall in love with the flawless finish it gives our skin, but being an acne-prone girl, cleaning this little wonder is essential if I don’t want to breakout every week (I speak from experience)… You probably all know these steps, but just in case, here is the best method to properly clean these sponges:

Clean your Blender after EVERY use. I know it’s a real pain in the arse but again, it could prevent breakouts or other skin problems in the long run.

Step 1:

Wet your sponge

Put your favorite makeup brush cleanser (mine is Dr. Bronners) on your sponge, and rub the product evenly to cover all areas of your blender.

Rinse, by squeezing it ’til there is no soap/mousse remaining.

I do this step once a week but you can also do it after every use  (I would suggest it if your are freelancing)

Apply 91% Alcohol on the wet sponge (ask your pharmacist for this product because it can be harder to find) and rinse abundantly.

Step 3:

Sanitize (The most essential step)

Put your now wet and clean sponge on a absorbing paper and put it in the microwave for 20 sec. (Not less because it won’t sanitize, and not more because your sponge will melt).

Note: The sponge will be HOT at this point!

These simple steps should assure that your Beauty Blender is squeaky clean and by doing so, you will keep this expensive tool longer and even lengthen its service life.

Hope these tips were helpful!

  1. I wash mine everyday. I take them in the shower with me and use my facial soap to clean the sponge with warm water. This way it’s always fresh and clean every time I use it and less bacteria on the sponge. And since I am using my facial wash, then I know this won’t irritate my skin as well. 🙂
