Barely 5 years ago, I was teaching cardio military classes and I was asking my students who wanted to loose the extra pounds, to ditch the “diet pills », and try some “home remedies” instead… Because you see, on the subject of “diet pills”, you have no idea how many I’ve tried. One of my closest friend was working for a big supplement chain and I got to try them all, and not one worked! Well, to be honest, maybe they would if I didn’t have side effects to the point that I will NEVER touch them again. Dizziness, bloating, diarrhea and the worst stomach ache ever, name it, I felt them all, but when you feel so bad after absorbing those products, maybe it’s better to exercise and feel tired and sore.
Since I’m now the overweight girl (way to go Ingrid!), and if I want to talk the talk, I need to walk the walk on home remedies that I was promoting to my friends (some got very good results I might add)! Since August 1st, I’ve started to drink religiously a concoction of honey-lemon-water and I will keep you posted on my results (in three months or so). During my return to greatness, I want to share my thoughts all thru my journey. Don’t you hate it when you read articles or posts about something that is supposed to be amazing but there are no real details or explanations on how well (or not) it works?
That won’t be the case with me; for a solid year I’ll take you on my adventure and be YOUR guinea pig (I loathe animal testing but you understand the expression!). Next week will be part 2 of my preferred home remedies, talking about greens and apple cider vinegar (ACV).
Rise and Shine (Upon waking up)
1/2 a lemon (juice)
1 teaspoon of honey1 cup of hot water (not boiled)*** The taste is AMAZING !!!***
10 reasons why this concoction is considered magical
(from at least 30 articles I read about the subject)
Keeps Constipation at Bay
Regular consumption of warm lemon-honey water in the morning promotes regularity. The beneficial effect comes not only from the warm water that helps move the stomach contents along, but from lemon juice’s property of lightening body secretions, including mucus secretion from the intestinal walls. This gets things moving effortlessly. Regular voiding helps reduce bloating and flatulence that accompany constipation.
Note: After 1 week, I can totally agree with that statement since I never been that regular (You know what I mean!).
Helps our Digestive System
Lemon juice has an atomic structure that is very close to the stomach’s digestive juices (Who knew!).
It works by making our liver produce more bile, a fluid we need to keep the gastrointestinal tract running smoothly by continuously moving the food we eat through the body. Drinking lemon water can also help in relieving symptoms of indigestion or an upset stomach with its ability to balance the oxygen and calcium levels in the liver that can lead to heartburns.
It also allows to absorb those much needed minerals at a higher rate. This also means we are less likely to feel bloated after eating.
The immunomodulating effect of lemon-honey drink can protect you from seasonal infections as well as allergies. You will find a marked reduction in colds and flus if you keep taking this drink every day.
You probably know that honey treatment is often advised when people have severe allergies to pollen and other environmental pollutions. Honey usually contains these substances in minute amounts, so ingesting them with the drink helps desensitize the body.
Regular sipping of lemon water can help you lose those last pounds. That’s because lemons contain pectin, a type of fiber commonly found in fruits. Plus, did you know that when you’re even mildly dehydrated, you’re more prone to things like headaches, fatigue and an overall bad mood? Chugging down lemon water helps your body stay hydrated and feeling happy.
Taking lemon and honey water early in the morning is one of the best things you can do for acne control. You may find the skin getting clearer within 2 to 3 weeks of starting on this drink (Praying on this one!!!).
Cleanses & Boosts Your System.
Numerous toxic substances enter our body through food contaminated with chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Environmental polluants also get absorbed through our skin and respiratory tract. They accumulate in tissues, especially in the liver and kidneys, and interfere with their proper functioning.
Citrus fruit juices are popular in detoxifying liquid diets. Lemon water mixed with honey is a gentle, yet powerful detoxification agent. It is a liver tonic, improving its function of neutralizing toxins. Its diuretic effect helps in flushing out the toxins through urine.
Energizes You and Enhances Your Mood.
Having a glass of lemon/honey water in the morning can boost our energy levels better than that cup of coffee, and there is no caffeine crash afterwards. We get our energy from the molecules and atoms that are in our food. Lemons allow negative charged ions to enter our digestive tract and this results in a natural boost to our levels of energy.
As for our mood, lemon has been found to have a scent that effectively lowers our stress levels and raises our mood. If you are looking to cut caffeine out of your routine, replacing it with lemon water is the way to go.
A lot of people suffer with bad breath, whether due to digestive issues or poor hygienic health. It can be embarrassing and affect people adversely in social situations. However, lemon juice is an effective and natural disinfectant.
Note: I don’t think (hope) I have the worst case of bad breath but I really can say that my mouth feels fresh and totally odourless!
Alleviate Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety
The high potassium content found in lemons has been known to help with depression and anxiety. Both of these ailments have often been linked to a person having in their system less potassium than needed.
Beats Urinary Tract Infection
Honey is known as a potent antibacterial agent. It has the capacity to beat number of common infections. When you combine it with water and lemon, these agents help in cleansing urinary tract. By acting as excellent diuretics, this mixture helps you to get rid of the problem.
♥Drink one glass about 30 minutes before you eat your breakfast. This will help your digestive system and body absorb those nutrients more efficiently.
♥You can rinse your mouth with plain water after you drink lemon water to wash any excess acid away or use a straw.
💠Recap of my journey …Week 2💠
I took some “swimsuit” selfies this week (and no, I won’t show them today) but hopefully in 6 months, we can see some results… Very humbling and scary sad !
I was on “fire” this week; I walked at least 2 hours per day and added some strength training: 25 abs reps + 100 squats + 3 x 15 of some arm exercices! My body aches so much because I stepped up my game a tiny bit but not to the point of hurting myself since I seem to get injured very easily lately.
It’s summer, the weather has been particularly nice in Quebec. Invitations for dinner have been pouring, and yet again, I’ve ate too much and not “diet friendly” half of the time… It sucks but I told you, I would keep this blog 100% real. My water intake is really good though, “pat on my back” for this one.
My Saturday’s posts are what’s keeping me super motivated and truthfully, it’s possibly the one thing that will make me reach my goals!
I try to relax but I just don’t know how to do it, next week I will try this technic:
Sama Vritti or “Equal Breathing”
How it’s done: Balance can do a body good, beginning with the breath. To start, inhale for a count of four, then exhale for a count of four — all through the nose, which adds a natural resistance to the breath.
When it works best: Anytime, anyplace — but this is one technique that’s especially effective before bed. Similar to counting sheep, if you’re having trouble falling asleep, this breath can help take your mind off the racing thoughts, or whatever might be distracting you from sleep.
