Last spring, I’ve started decluttering my large makeup collection to the point that I’ve given away or threw in the garbage half of my stuff. Right of the bat, it hurts to get rid of all those cherish items but what stings the most, is realizing that my money was not well spent since so many products were still untouched and unused.
This fall, I’m at it again (lesson not learned it seems)!! But this time, I only want to keep the best of the best and if a product wasn’t used once in the last year then it’s going away. Quality over quantity is my mojo now and regardless of the price tag, I want to shrink my collection and truly enjoy each products that I choose to keep! I often said it: I’m a makeup addict but I’m not a makeup collector; I never wanted to become one and frankly, what’s the point of hoarding all that makeup that will often expire anyway!
All items that I own, from makeup to skincare, are less than 3 years old … Yay!
For this new blog series, I’ve started with concealers since it was easier (and less heartbreaking) …
If a product is more than two years old and/or the wrong color, it went into the “Decluttering Device” – a new invention that BeardMan built which heats and melts everything down for a convenient way to dispose (Joke, just went right in the dumpster)!!! The choice was that simple and it felt so good afterwards. I was sad though to throw all these concealers away as my local women shelter only takes powder products for hygiene reasons and I guess my family and friends are not that into used makeup (and not my complexion or light skin like me)! The worst is that all of these were at least 3/4 full!
♥ If you want to try some affordable drugstore options, Maybelline Fit Me and L.A Girl PRO-Conceal are fabulous, if you can find your right color.
♥ Korres, Soap & Glory and Becca’s were frankly awful: so cakey, so thick, so not worth it (for me).
♥ e.l.f HD Lift Concealer was ok but would unfortunately fade towards the end of the day and the NYX one, I bought for contouring but now that I found my Holy Grail in Kevyn Aucoin’s cream bronzer/contour, this product was just collecting dust.
♥ no dark shadows, Cover Fx and bareMinerals concealers have not been tested yet. I will review each one in November and if they are not top notch, they are gone!
♥ I adore Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector so much! I have to spread to good words on this beautiful product.
♥I’ve talked about bareMinerals Bareskin so many times, it’s a keeper (But man the packaging sucks)!!
♥ MAKE UP FOR EVER Lift Concealer does wonders if you want a serum-type hydrating concealer that NEVER looks cakey, but if you have really dark circles, it won’t do a great job. The other downfall of this product is that it comes only in five shades!
♥ Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème is absolutely NOT working for me: so cakey, too thick and frankly ages me a lot… I’m keeping it because it’s perfect as a mobile lid primer when I want a very light effect. For this use, it’s perfection!!
♥ Yves St-Laurent Touche Éclat is worth the hype, it’s simply magic in a stick. I did a mini review recently!
As you can see, I have enough concealers to last me through 2017 and maybe even 2018… I’ve promised myself that after using all my concealer stash, I would treat myself with By Terry’s Terrybly Densiliss Concealer. Frankly, it’s the BEST concealer I’ve ever tried; pricey, but if I only buy one, it will be worth it. To be fair, if I add up all the ones I’ve thrown away last spring with the ones I’ve just disposed, it amounts to at least three By Terry 😩! Quality over quantity remember!!
Less is more!
