I’m privileged to have had the chance to try and give my honest opinion on a brand new Montreal-based (Canada) company called Luna-Oil. First, I was touched by the lovely owner Maya, a girl full of enthusiasm and genuine, and secondly, I was excited because Face Oils are such important pieces in my morning and evening routines; I definitely swear by them. That being said, all face oils are not created equal and personally, most of the ones on the market usually cause breakouts. It’s fair to say that I was a bit fearful after my first application but, my fears disappeared and I was quickly smitten …

PITTA ($65Cnd)

From her beautiful website, you can easily find what types of oil are right for you. My skin type, previous skin problems and age all pointed to the PITTA blend… Rightfully, I might add!

PITTA:

Fair, sensitive, soft skin, warm to the touch and medium thickness. This type of skin is susceptible to freckles, moles, rashes and acne when it is out of balance.

Skin Care: cooling and nurturing oils such as Coconut and Rosehip oil

VATA:

Dry, thin, delicate skin, cool to the touch. Vulnerabilities to extreme weather conditions, especially the wind which leaves it dehydrated. When out of balance, Vata skin is dry, flaky and prone to wrinkles.

Skin care: rich, hydrating oils such as Tamanu and Avocado oil

KAPHA:

Oily, thick skin, that is cool to the touch. Enlarged pores are typical of this skin type, which, when out of balance tends to be prone to blackheads, pimples and greasy, dull-looking skin.

Skin care: astringent and cleansing oils such as Tea Tree oil and Frankincense

NOTE: There is also an Anti-Aging Oil and a whole line for MEN.

Luna Oil Face and Body Oils

Even if they often break me out, I’ve been an avid user of face oils and now with so much testing under my belt, I can now recognize a good face oil after my first application just by how my skin feels (and how my face looks the following morning)…

After testing Luna Oil’s PITTA for many weeks now, I’m very impressed with this oil; it absolutely rivals the most popular ones on the market. My skin is (figuratively speaking) drinking this concoction and it soothes my skin redness resulting in a super soft epidermis. I swear, my skin never looked better since I started incorporating face oils into my daytime and/or nighttime regimens. I have been afraid of oils all my life and now I can’t live without them!

♥ First and foremost, it nourishes the skin,

♥Because oils are lipophilic, they can penetrate deep into the skin, trapping water and other moisturizing goodnesses in, while keeping toxins and other bad stuff out. Some oils also help to fortify and strengthen our own natural skin barrier.

♥ It can be mixed with your foundation or used alone, some face oils make great face primers,

♥ With time, I felt like it diminishes my enlarged pores,

♥ I’ve also noticed that by regularly applying facial oils, our skin will rebalance to produce a calmer, clearer and healthy-looking complexion. Even if, you are acne prone, face oils will help readjust your skin.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

♥ Always mix your oils before using it since they easily separate.

♥ Remember that they can be used with any serum, treatment, AHA/BHA or other product. However, you don’t want to mix your face oil into your daytime moisturizer with SPF – doing so dilutes the sunscreen’s effectiveness.

Minuit à Paris ($70Cnd)

Luna Oil Face and Body Oils

I prefer body oils over creams, but unfortunately, most of the ones I’ve tried take forever to dry and it feels like my pyjamas are absorbing them all. LUNA-Oil Body Oils are different as your skin is completely dry in about 15 minutes, leaving the skin so soft, moisturized and delicately perfumed. With a name like Minuit à Paris (Midnight in Paris), how can we not fall in love. But its after some applications that this product reveals all its wonderful properties. This oil feels so luxurious on the skin and the Rose aroma is subtle but so reminiscent of Versailles Rose Garden.

Look how many roses are actually in bottle? The product is not just good for your skin, the packaging is beautiful for your eyes!  If you really want to spoil yourself, you can also add this body oil to your bath…

I have such an admiration for entrepreneurs who decide to take their passion to another level and start their own brand. Many would say that the beauty industry is saturated but I think that niche company (like Maya’s) can also have a place in the sun. Luna-Oil is a company that will surely flourish in 2017.

  1. Oooh a home grown Montreal brand! How lovely. That body oil looks gorgeous and would look so nice sitting on the counter. I love that it comes with a pump too – how convenient! And you had me at ROSE. Isn’t it funny how we avoided oils for so long and now we can’t live without them? I’m the same!

    1. I now use oils all the time. You should see my face at night. (Let’s just say that I’m glowing).
Yay! for a Montreal brand (BTW The owner is so lovely)!
The Rose body oil is so pretty that I almost feel guilty to use it!😜

  2. Hey! That oil is beautiful! Do you have a fav oil for your face? I am thinking about getting the rose hip bc I’ve read good things about it. I tried coconut oil on my face and that was a disaster. I break out exactly where i put the oil, like over night — crazy. Looovvve that this oil has a pump too :))

    1. The PITTA oil is very nice. No breakouts to report!
Another one I really like is Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil, it’s very mild but gives awesome results.
Coconut Oil did the same exact thing to me 😖
      Thanks for your comment xx
