I love reading and I thought it was about time I shared the books I read (or listen to), and you know me, give my impressions, good or bad!
How NOT To Die

This is by FAR the best book I’ve listen to in recent years. It’s saying a lot when you’ve listen to it three times already right? This is the most comprehensive book on health and nutrition that I’ve stumble upon in the last 10 years. Very easy to understand for those new to the subject, but also substantive enough that those very familiar with diabetes , hypertension or other diseases will learn a great deal of new information.
Dr. Greger, through tons of researches, transport you in the world of a plant-based diet, and the benefits that this life-changing approach will bring. It’s not a book about veganism, even if the principals are the same, but it’s solely based on years of research about THE diet that can optimize our health (even cure some diseases already present).
This book is divided into two major parts. The first part consists of 15 chapters, one for each of the major afflictions that cause people to die. For each, Dr. Greger explains the disease or affliction, and then describes the foods that have been found to reduce the risk, prevent, reverse, or cure the disease.
The second part of the book, (that I highly suggest you read first), contains chapters for every healthy food groups. Dr. Greger explains which chemicals, elements, enzymes, or anti-oxidants are particularly useful for preventing or curing a disease (I assure you that you will want to take some notes!!!).
Note: If you are a fan of Audible or other apps to listen to your books, I would HIGHLY suggest this medium instead of plain old reading, as Dr.Greger’s voice is very pleasant, even funny from time to time.

This book is written for people who are open-minded about a plant-based/vegan diet or just want to explore the idea of other sources of proteins. Having read the masterpiece How Not To Die from Michael Greger, M.D. (look up if you wonder what on Earth I’m talking about 😂 ), I still had in the back of my mind that this new way of living and eating would leave me somehow deprived of the amount of protein I need. To my knowledge and experience, I always thought I needed a lot, I mean a massive amount of protein on a daily basis, which scientifically is absolutely not true thanks to this book.
Kathy Freston & Bruce Friedrich offer a very well researched (adding sources, statistics and quotes) approach to clean protein and most certainly why we should partly or totally change to that method of eating for our environment, health reasons and all the debacle of the animal-based farming. The format is easy to read and really interesting.
Trust me, all the why? what? and how? will be answered in this book. The last part of the book offers a ton of easy recipes incorporating of course all different sources of clean protein. A must if you are open to the subject or just curious. Chances are that after reading it, you will make some partial or total changes and find yourself feeling better than you over did. I know this for a fact!

Mindful Thoughts for Walkers : Footnotes on the zen path *

This Adam Ford book really surprised me. I found myself appreciating this spiritual sort of guidebook and frankly, it made me reflect on how I approach my walks (and my life). This well-written publication consists of short chapters that focus on mindfulness tips that we should all explore when connecting with nature or walking in the city.
As an avid walker and mostly nature lover, I was surprise to realize that my walks are always not goal-oriented and my thoughts are always filled with problems to solve, things to do, etc…, and that I’ve been missing the real connection with my environnement. Just as a small example, on my last walk, I sat on a dead branch, closed my eyes and just listen to all the sounds that was surrounding me and I had an epiphany: I felt zen … I never do, as my life is very chaotic and I never relax. Lovely piece of writing!

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life

As you may noticed, I have a slight addiction for self-motivating books. Sometimes, these books give me some tips, some values or ways to deal with different problems or just make me think and reflect on my day-to-day life; but not this one. I listen to the audiobook version and the narrator was very good and the book by itself is really entertaining, even sometimes humoristic. I wasn’t bothered by the hundreds of “f*cks” of the first pages nor the author many stories, but at the end of the day, it just didn’t bring no additional clues on How not to give a F*ck in my personal life!
Enjoyable but not what I expected.
