Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

If you haven’t heard about the Spring Cleaning Project, it’s basically Jodi (A Brash Attitude) and I and our newfound way to use up our very large makeup & skincare collection in a four-month period. We are hoping (more PRAYING) to pan (or empty) 16 products at the end of these 16 weeks (Won’t happen for me). Each month, we do some kind of project update and give a quick review on 4 of our selected items.

I still can’t believe how hard it is to finish products! At first, I thought that it would be a piece of cake to empty 16 products but, if I stay on the same pace, it will be a miracle if I finish 6 after 4 months. In March, I managed to finish Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash & Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in White Russian, two products reviewed today. I also finished 2 items from Sephora Favorites’ Beauty Sleep and I’m hoping to finish everything in this set for next month. Such a great buy, this set was a superb value!

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Today, I will be focusing on these 4 products …

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water 🐰

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Pros:

Smashbox products are cruelty-free,

This product is parabens-free, silicone-free, oil-free and alcohol-, talc-, and sodium lauryl sulfate-free! Maybe free of bad stuff for your skin, but not for your wallet (see Cons!!).

You can put it in the fridge for an added cooling sensation,

Doesn’t cause any breakouts,

The best way to apply it is before and after all your cream products.

Cons:

Not money-free! It’s even quite expensive ($39Cnd for 3.9oz)

Doesn’t blur my pores as a normal primer should.

Ingrid’s Rate: 9/10. Since I’m a sucker for spray product, I will probably repurchase this water. Maybe it’s just a fancy/expensive liquid and Smashbox (or should I say Estee Lauder) are laughing all the way to the bank but heck, I like the moisturizing effect on my skin. It should be called a prepping water way more than a primer one!

Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector (#1)

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Pros:

High SPF 43,

Doesn’t break me out.

Cons:

Shiseido tests on animals,

Clings to dry patches and does not hydrate like stated,

Only 3 shades available (#1 is almost too light for my skin),

Doesn’t blend well so you need to use a lot of product,

Can’t be applied around the eyes area since the product creases like crazy.

Ingrid’s Rate: 5/10. I wouldn’t repurchase: it’s too sheer to be worn alone (not enough coverage) and layered with foundation, it just doesn’t work at all (emphasizes my dry patches). I really did try to like it but it’s just an average, dull product!

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Pros:

A tiny pea amount gives you the nicest foam ever,

The mint scent is invirogating,

Affordable considering the 1oz travel size lasted me 3 months ($26.50Cnd for 5oz),

Works really well with any cleansing devices (Clarisonic or Foreo).

Cons:

Origins tests on animals,

Not hydrating enough. It cleans great but maybe too much as it leaves my face feeling like rubber almost.

Ingrid’s Rate: 8/10. It’s such an enjoyable product but my skin feel a little bit tight afterward. Origins A Perfect World Antioxidant Cleanser with White Tea is better as it  cleans painlessly but also moisturizes and hydrates. Both products smell heavenly and give such a lovely foam.

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in White Russian 🐰

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Pros:

Buxom is cruelty-free,

Great pigmentation,

All Buxom lip products smell divine,

Long staying power (at least 2 hours),

The tingling effect is addictive.

Cons:

It’s a stickier formula (not a con for me since I wear my hair in a bun 90% of the time),

I didn’t really notice a big plumping effect.

Ingrid’s Rate: 10/10. Buxom Full-On Lip Cream & Lip Polishes are among the best lipgloss-type products on the market. White Russian is a cult favorite for a good reason since it’s the perfect nude to wear alone or on top of another lipstick.

Now that you’ve read my three months update, have a look at how Jodi (A Brash Attitude) is panning like a mad woman!.

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #2) | 2017

If you haven’t heard about the Spring Cleaning Project, it’s basically the wild child of Jodi (A Brash Attitude)Jodi (A Brash Attitude) and I and it’s our newfound way to use up our very large makeup & skincare collection in a four-month period. We are hoping (more PRAYING) to pan (or empty) 16 products at the end of these 16 weeks. Each month, we do some kind of project update and give a quick review on 4 of these items.

It’s ridiculous how time flies by; it’s been already 2 months and I’m stressing out since I only finished one product out of the 16 I’ve picked. I however made serious progress on some others but no panning is to be seen! I’ve made a chink in MAC’s Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly armour, so all is not lost; my goal is too empty this sucker before the end of this project!

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #2) | 2017

Final thoughts on the products I’ve emptied …

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon parfume

I can’t believe how fast I’ve emptied 3 deluxe samples of this perfume! Don’t get me wrong, I adore the scent, but it doesn’t stay on me and I had to reapply constantly. Will I buy a full size? At $120Cnd for the 3.4oz, it’s steep knowing that it won’t last more than 6 months. Still debating on this one?!

Cake Beauty Lemon Chiffon Supreme Body Mousse

This huge bottle was far from being empty; I just threw it in the trash. I’m pretty sure that I got a bad product or I had it too long in my stash, since it didn’t smell nice on me at all.  On the other hand, the Shower Froth is so lovely and really yummy!

Today, I will be focusing on these 4 products …

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #2) | 2017

Pink Gel Coat

“A protein-rich nail coating that strengthens, seals, and protects.”

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #2) | 2017

Pros:

Makes my nails so much stronger,

Makes my natural nails look super glossy and polished,

Doesn’t chip whatsoever,

Can be use over nail polish.

Cons:

Turns yellow after 1 week (On the bottle, it’s written to take it off after 7 days, so not a real con),

Rather expensive at $38Cnd a bottle.

Ingrid’s Rate: 9/10. I took off 1 point because of the price tag, but I will repurchase this treatment/polish over and over. It makes my hands look so healthy and pretty, while fortifying  my nails!

 Jurlique Herbal Recovery Advanced Serum

“An active antioxidant serum to protect against environmental aggressors and support natural cell regeneration for healthy-looking, glowing skin.”

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #2) | 2017

Pros:

Lightweight and really fast absorbing: it dries quickly without any greasy after feel,

Strong Rose scent – I like Roses but it could be a definite con for someone else,

Doesn’t cause any breakouts,

Great at moisturizing my skin.

Cons:

Jurlique is not cruelty-free,

I didn’t notice the glowing results as promised on the bottle.

Ingrid’s Rate: 8/10. I do enjoy this “Rose delight” a lot. My skin feels hydrated and really smooth after using it. Sadly, I won’t repurchase because it’s not CF.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Amethyst

“A long-lasting, creamy eyeshadow stick that can also line, highlight, and create smoky looks.”

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #2) | 2017

Pros:

Long lasting (as long as 12 hours of real pleasure),

Transfer resistant = hooded eyes dream,

NO creasing,

Vibrant and very pigmented,

Perfect creamy formula for my dry eyelids,

Can be used as a base for any powder shadows,

Easy to apply,

Cruelty-Free.

Cons:

Will dry out really fast if the lid is not put on tightly.

Ingrid’s Rate: 10/10.  A hooded eyes BFF, a dry eyelids perfect match, no creasing, no fading and no transferring; what’s not to love?? Like I already said in other posts, it’s perfection on a stick! Out of all the colors, Amethyst is the prettiest of all.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Lift Concealer (#3)

“More than just a concealer! It contains tensine, an active ingredient with skin-firming properties for the eye area, and vitamins A and E, which regenerate the skin. This multipurpose product also conceals specific, darker areas (brown spots, blotches, etc.) and can be used as a highlighter on the more prominent parts of the face (cheekbones, forehead, and chin) for added radiance.”

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #2) | 2017

Pros:

Blends nicely with my skin & most importantly, it doesn’t crease (No cakeyness),

Looks very smooth and natural,

Suitable for mature skin (it’s a serum-type formula),

I really love the “squeezing tube” presentation: it lasts a very long time since a little goes a long way (I’ve used this tube daily for almost 18 months and there is a ton of product left)!

Its moisturizing property make it perfect for dry skin (and @$%#! cold winters).

Cons:

Only 5 shades available (The lightest color is barely light enough for my fair winter skin👻)

Doesn’t cover dark circles well enough. You can layer the product for added coverage but I don’t like layering…

No noticeable skin-firming properties for the eye area, contrary to what the brand claims.

Ingrid’s Rate: 8/10. Loving this concealer’s hydrating properties! The lightweight formula  is perfect (since I don’t have very dark circles) and the creasing is barely noticeable. A tube lasts FOREVER, so you get a great value ($33Cnd) for your buck (Already 2 Project Pan, hoping I finish it this time around)!

Now that you’ve read my two months update, have a look at how Jodi (A Brash Attitude) is doing on this 2017 Project Pan Spring Cleaning Edition so far.

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #1) | 2017

Already a month has passed since debuting our (Jodi (A Brash Attitude) and I) new Project Pan Spring 2017 Edition. Although I’ve used most of the 16 products everyday, there is no real panning going on as of right now (as expected)! If you’ve never started a project like this before, start one and you’ll be amazed at how fun they are and they take away all the guessing of what to use in the morning (or night).

Todays I will be focusing on these 4 products …

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #1) | 2017

Cake Beauty Lemon Chiffon Shower Froth and Supreme Body Mousse

I chose them first for one simple reason: as much as I adore the Lemon Chiffon Shower Froth, I totally despise the Supreme Body mousse (to the point that I’m getting rid of it). First thing first …

Cake Beauty Lemon Chiffon Shower Froth

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #1) | 2017

Pros:

It smells ridiculously good (think of a decadent Lemon Meringue pie),

Totally affordable if you buy them at Winners/Marshalls (the $12.99Cnd price is still on),

When using a sponge/mesh net ball, it makes the nicest foam,

Note: This product is Cruelty-free, Vegan, Natural ingredient-driven, Gluten-free, GMO-free, Paraben-free, Phthalate-free and Made in Canada.

Cons:

None

Ingrid’s Rate: 9/10. I have loved Cake’s Shower Froth for such a long, I think that I own every scent they make. Next trip to Winners/Marshalls, have a look at them.

Cake Beauty Lemon Chiffon Body Mousse

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #1) | 2017

Pros:

Super creamy,

Smells heavenly,

Inexpensive for such a huge bottle (I also paid $12.99Cnd at Winners).

Note: This product is also Cruelty-free, Vegan, Natural ingredient-driven, Gluten-free, GMO-free, Paraben-free, Phthalate-free and Made in Canada.

Cons:

Doesn’t dry fast enough,

15 minutes after the initial application, it starts to smell quite bad… The lemon scent is nowhere to be sniff.

Ingrid’s Rate: 2/10. Except for the price tag, there is nothing I like about this product. I’m so sad because I had great expectations for this body cream, but I hate the smell so there is no need to keep it. Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream, here I come…

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon parfume

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #1) | 2017

The Notes: Vanilla Bourbon, Oakwood, Tuberose.

Pros:

Dirty Dirty… Dirty Boozy Vanilla. A very seductive fragrance,

Cruelty-Free,

It mixes surprisingly well with Nirvana Rose.

Cons:

It’s not long-lasting (2 hours max on me).

Ingrid’s Rate: 7/10. I love Vanilla and smelling like cake batter is my cup of tea. This perfume, with its smoky twist, has surprisingly won me over. You do need to apply a lot to make your presence noted. If it would have been long-lasting, this fragrance would be a 10/10 for sure!

Becca Backlight Priming Filter

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #1) | 2017

Pros:

Gives a beautiful luminous glow to the skin,

I notice a little bluring effect.

Cons:

It contains fragrance that could irritate sensible skin types,

Dries my skin (my foundation ends up looking super patchy),

Contrary to some reviews, I wouldn’t wear it alone (too shiny and obvious).

Ingrid’s Rate: 5/10. I like it but I would never purchase a full size. I can see why a lot of girls (and boys) love it but it doesn’t seem to work on my particular combination/dry skin type.

Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #1) | 2017

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #1) | 2017

Want to know more: Mac Must-Haves ❥ Paint Pots

Pros:

Inexpensive considering that I bought this pot in 2015 (a little goes a long way),

The product doesn’t dry up,

The best eye primer “PERIOD”,

Super creamy (non drying) and blendable,

Creasing and fading proof.

Cons:

MAC is NOT Cruelty-Free.

Ingrid’s Rate: 10/10. This is such a staple in my daily makeup routine. I adore this formula so much so that I own 7 of these Pro Longwear Paint Pots. I often use them alone just to cover the redness I have on my eyelids. The only product that comes really close to this product is the now discontinued bareMinerals 5 in 1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow SPF 15.

Now that you’ve read my one month update, go see how Jodi (A Brash Attitude) did on this 2017 Project Pan Spring Cleaning Edition.
