Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 | Holiday 2017

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 | Review & Swatches

Yes my friends, I bit the bullet and purchased the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Volume 3 palette. I’ve been wanting Volume 1 or 2 for so long and always passed, but this one had my name written all over it.

95$CND later, do I love it? Yessssssss. Is it worth it? Yessssssssssssssssssss.

Note: I know that this palette is SADLY out of stock, but I still wanted to review it for you since many of these powders can be purchased individually.

What’s Included

6 pans (mini size), each one containing  0.04oz (Total 0.24 oz) – Made in Italy

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 | Review & Swatches

Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light (neutral peach beige powder), Diffused Light (soft, warm pale yellow powder)
Ambient Lighting Blush in Surreal Halo (deep berry blush fused with surreal light), Pur Effect (bright petal pink fused with a glimmering rose)

Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light (a medium bronze shade fused with Luminous Light for a softer, candlelit warmth)
Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Hypnotic Strobe Light (champagne powder infused with multidimensional pearl)

Great Value?

Is it a good value, the simple answer is NO. By gram of product, this is the worst investment ever. However, I do own full size Hourglass powders and believe me, some take forever to pan, so I see it as having 6 minis which sold separately would have cost a bundle (6 x 32$ = 192$!)

Fair to Light Skin Friendly?

Hourglass products seem to be oriented more towards light to medium skintones. This palette is “darker” than Volume 2 but is still appropriate for light skintones.

Same Formula?

Formula wise, these are exactly the same as their full size counterparts. These powders are simply magical. They blend so easily and give that glow from within. Just a casual warning though: They are addictive, you will want more and more… Another observation: Contrary to some other brands (Tarte, Too Faced just to name a few), I feel that Hourglass doesn’t cheap out and try profit from the Holiday buzz.

Closer Eye On Each Powder

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 | Review & Swatches

Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Hypnotic Strobe Light: This is the only powder that I’m not madly in love with.  It’s a nice highlighter, but a little too shimmery for my taste. I still use it on the high points of my cheekbones, nose and cupid bow. As a single, I wouldn’t buy a full size as I prefer Laura Mercier (Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact 01) & Kevyn Aucoin (The Celestial Highlighting Powders in Candlelight & Starlight) highlighters .

Ambient Lighting Blush in Surreal Halo & Pur Effect: These blushes are PIGMENTED! On my light skin, I just need to slightly tap my brush in the powder and I have enough product for both my cheeks. It’s a clear shift from my ultimate favorite Hourglass (Ethereal Glow) but I’m digging these A LOT!

Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light: Although my perfect shade from this line is Nude Bronze Light, this one actually works very nice too. I take a small fluffy brush and apply gently on the top of my cheeks and forehead for a very subtle glow.

Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim LightDiffused Light: I own the full size of Dim Light and I use it mainly in summer as a finishing powder all over my face. I feel it gives the nicest fresh glow ever. For Diffused Light, I mostly use it to set my undereye concealer and it’s so pretty. The only problem is that I’m pretty sure I will pan this within 1 to 2 months, since there is already a dent😩. I will likely buy a full size of this one during the next Spring VIB Sale to replace my rapidly shrinking Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder.

I’m totally ga-ga over this beauty. I like the convenience of having 6 different powders in one stunning compact. But keep in mind that you have to use small brushes for a perfect application (I use Sephora Pros Brushes # 74, 79 & 90) since the pans are very small. To put it simply, Hourglass makes one of the most beautiful cruelty-free powders out there. It’s expensive like hell but heck we only live once (I keep telling that to myself and BeardMan – mostly to justify my spending)! 😉

Have a beautiful day my beauties!

Kariliss Hair Products | Cruelty-Free

Recently, I had the chance to try Kariliss Shampoo & Conditioner. I fell so in love with the way they treated my hair that I ask if I could review ALL its product line. Thankfully, they sent them right away.

♥♥♥ This is not a first impression post; I have tried and tested these AMAZING products for a while now. I can only applaud this brand for making these products for women with dry, curly (frizzy) & mostly damaged/over-processed hair.

Proudly Made in Quebec (Canada) – Cruelty-Free

The Kariliss line, created by the beautiful Amina Gerba, “consists of six essential products to help restore vitality, flexibility and beauty to your hair, while moisturizing the scalp. These products with floral and fruity fragrance, and also vanilla, coconut and jasmine fragrance, are essential and complementary to revive the hair thoroughly”. (The scent is  very ADDICTIVE!)

“A super moisturizing line entirely composed of natural active ingredients. Kariliss products do not contain  parabens or petroleum jelly, silicone or other chemical element clogging the pores of the scalp, which would have the effect of slowing hair growth”.

Main Ingredients

Shea Butter – Argan Oil – Baobab Oil – Black Cumin Oil

Moisturizing Shampoo

15.99$CND (350ml)

This shampoo does every thing I need it to do. It lathers gently (which is something I like) so my hair and scalp feels clean without leaving a greasy feeling or frizzy mess. It’s so soft, it’s great for your daily use. A little goes a long way.

Nourishing Conditioner

15.99$CND (350ml)

It untangles my hair very easily and mostly, IT SMELLS RIDICULOUSLY YUMMY (Banana candy yummy).  I’m already into my second bottle.

Both the shampoo & conditioner have made my crazy hair feel soft, moisturized and lightweight. Additionally, they don’t make my scalp itchy like so many other products do. This duo cleans so well that I can add one more day to my usual “2 days before washing my hair again” regimen. Alleluia !

Leave-In Conditioner

12.99$CND (180ml)

I won’t ever be without this product. On the days that I air-dry my hair, it makes a huge difference on my hair appearance: no frizz, very soft and silky. It just doesn’t feel like I have any product in my hair. Contrary to other products, it leaves no stickiness after application. LOVE IT!

Fortifying Hair Mask

23.99$CND (240ml)

One of the best hair mask I’ve used so far, especially for that price. Usually, my hair feels DRY, like really dry and frizzy; this stuff is very moisturizing yet, it doesn’t weigh my hair down at all. I really can tell a difference in my curl definition too. Cannot say enough good things about it. You need this product to keep your hair healthy.

Hair Stimulating Serum

19.99$CND (60ml)

You won’t get a full review of this Serum since I want to give it a good two months of regular use before I do my final review.

First impressions: The smell is a little strong for my taste (very woodsy)! It doesn’t bother me since I’ve been using it during my off days but it clashes from their other products. It’s also more “oily” than a serum type formula. It will be interesting to see if I get results with just 2 -3 uses per week.

I was very anxious to try this product. I’ve been dealing with major hormonal problems for the last year or so, and one of the side-effect has been my hair falling out at a panicking rate. I’m praying to see great results.

Hair Pomade

5.99$CND (15ml)

I don’t know how I could manage before I found this product. I have a horrible cowlick in my hairline, which makes it difficult to wear my hair back at all. Now, I just put some of this pomade on my hair to smooth it back, apply some hairspray, and voila, it holds all day! I’m thrilled to no longer have to wear tons of pins to hold everything in place (I think that I would trigger the metal detector in an airport). I also use this pomade on the ends of my hair when I wear it down to give some definition to the layers. Perfect amount of hold and shine.

Kariliss Hair Products | Cruelty-Free

I’ve enjoyed every product so far. I may have just found my Holy Grail affordable hair products. The formula and the smell make them so enjoyable and frankly, my hair looks healthier and so much better. One of my best discoveries of the year!

Kariliss products are available on their Website, Costco,  & lots of other retailers (Quebec, Ontario, USA, Africa & Europe)

NEW Maybelline Brow Products | Hot or Not?

NEW Maybelline Brow Products | Hot or Not?

Thanks to Chick Advisor (#GotitFree), I recently received three new brow products from Maybelline. It’s been a while since I reviewed a drugstore item and since brow products are one of my makeup weaknesses, I was very curious to try them.

– 5 Shades Available –

I have mixed feelings about this powder. The product by itself is good but the concept needs to be revisited!

† This powder doesn’t budge – Amazing staying power if you prime your eyebrow,

† Easiest application ever,

† Affordable (around 9$🇨🇦).

† Too much product comes out and way too fast – too much product results in thick, bold eyebrows and since normally, I have thin, overplucked brows, it gives me an unnatural look and changes my makeup drastically,

† Messy – If you don’t tap out the excess powder, it will be fallout galore,

† The Blonde shade is too dark. The result is too obvious for my personal taste,

† NOT for thin eyebrows, unless you use a different brush to apply it.

There are definitely people out there who rock the dark, thick brows and who will love this product however, it is not for me. But for the new trend of bushy brows, this product will definitely do a great job!

Rating: 3/5;  it’s not a bad product at all if you are careful with the application.

– 5 Shades Available –

† Affordable (around 10$🇨🇦).

† The gel by itself is ok, if you use a little bit.

† Once it dries, the product is VERY flakey,

† AGAIN, the blonde, lighter shade is too dark for me,

† Doesn’t make my brows appear fuller at all,

† Very unnatural and ultra-matte.

The gel tends to clog the brush and goes on too thick leaving small globs of product. More than once, I had to remove the gel from one of my brows (with an eye makeup remover) and start over. The only way I could use this product is by dipping my ABH #12 brush into the gel and apply it into my eyebrows. When doing so, it works but what’s the point of using this product if you have to add all these extra steps! This product is possibly better suited for thicker eyebrows with only a few sparse areas to fill.

Rating: 2/5

– 4 Shades Available –

† The tip is really fine – it makes it easier to define your brows. It doesn’t apply harshly, and you can definitely build it up.

† Built-in sharpener,

† Affordable (around 9$🇨🇦),

† It goes on very smoothly.

†I don’t like the spoolie on the opposite end of this product. It’s of lesser quality compared to most other spoolies that come with brow products,

† The blonde color is a tad too dark (This is the theme of the day).

† The worst downfall is that once you twist up the product, it won’t twist back down. You have to be really careful with your maneuver, just roll up a tiny bit at a time,

† I don’t see this product lasting more than 1 month – Compared to my favorite ABH Brow Wiz who lasts about 3 months.

Rating: 4/5: It’s a good brow pencil but unfortunately, I already found my Holy Grail. It has some great features but the big drowbacks are the shade selection as the Blonde is too dark and the unusual spoolie.
