Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

If you haven’t heard about the Spring Cleaning Project, it’s basically Jodi (A Brash Attitude) and I and our newfound way to use up our very large makeup & skincare collection in a four-month period. We are hoping (more PRAYING) to pan (or empty) 16 products at the end of these 16 weeks (Won’t happen for me). Each month, we do some kind of project update and give a quick review on 4 of our selected items.

I still can’t believe how hard it is to finish products! At first, I thought that it would be a piece of cake to empty 16 products but, if I stay on the same pace, it will be a miracle if I finish 6 after 4 months. In March, I managed to finish Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash & Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in White Russian, two products reviewed today. I also finished 2 items from Sephora Favorites’ Beauty Sleep and I’m hoping to finish everything in this set for next month. Such a great buy, this set was a superb value!

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Today, I will be focusing on these 4 products …

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water 🐰

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Smashbox products are cruelty-free,

This product is parabens-free, silicone-free, oil-free and alcohol-, talc-, and sodium lauryl sulfate-free! Maybe free of bad stuff for your skin, but not for your wallet (see Cons!!).

You can put it in the fridge for an added cooling sensation,

Doesn’t cause any breakouts,

The best way to apply it is before and after all your cream products.

Not money-free! It’s even quite expensive ($39Cnd for 3.9oz)

Doesn’t blur my pores as a normal primer should.

Ingrid’s Rate: 9/10. Since I’m a sucker for spray product, I will probably repurchase this water. Maybe it’s just a fancy/expensive liquid and Smashbox (or should I say Estee Lauder) are laughing all the way to the bank but heck, I like the moisturizing effect on my skin. It should be called a prepping water way more than a primer one!

Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector (#1)

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

High SPF 43,

Doesn’t break me out.

Shiseido tests on animals,

Clings to dry patches and does not hydrate like stated,

Only 3 shades available (#1 is almost too light for my skin),

Doesn’t blend well so you need to use a lot of product,

Can’t be applied around the eyes area since the product creases like crazy.

Ingrid’s Rate: 5/10. I wouldn’t repurchase: it’s too sheer to be worn alone (not enough coverage) and layered with foundation, it just doesn’t work at all (emphasizes my dry patches). I really did try to like it but it’s just an average, dull product!

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

A tiny pea amount gives you the nicest foam ever,

The mint scent is invirogating,

Affordable considering the 1oz travel size lasted me 3 months ($26.50Cnd for 5oz),

Works really well with any cleansing devices (Clarisonic or Foreo).

Origins tests on animals,

Not hydrating enough. It cleans great but maybe too much as it leaves my face feeling like rubber almost.

Ingrid’s Rate: 8/10. It’s such an enjoyable product but my skin feel a little bit tight afterward. Origins A Perfect World Antioxidant Cleanser with White Tea is better as it  cleans painlessly but also moisturizes and hydrates. Both products smell heavenly and give such a lovely foam.

Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in White Russian 🐰

Spring Cleaning Project (Update #3) | 2017

Buxom is cruelty-free,

Great pigmentation,

All Buxom lip products smell divine,

Long staying power (at least 2 hours),

The tingling effect is addictive.

It’s a stickier formula (not a con for me since I wear my hair in a bun 90% of the time),

I didn’t really notice a big plumping effect.

Ingrid’s Rate: 10/10. Buxom Full-On Lip Cream & Lip Polishes are among the best lipgloss-type products on the market. White Russian is a cult favorite for a good reason since it’s the perfect nude to wear alone or on top of another lipstick.

Now that you’ve read my three months update, have a look at how Jodi (A Brash Attitude) is panning like a mad woman!.

5 TIPS I’d tell my younger self about BEAUTY

5 TIPS I’d tell my younger self about BEAUTY

DO NOT over-pluck your eyebrows

5 Beauty Tips I Wish I Could Tell My Younger Self

If you were around during the late 80’s-early 90’s, you know that thin eyebrows were the norm. Plucking mine was a daily ritual since I wanted to eliminate my bushy unibrow. No matter how weird we were plucking them, our elders were always telling us that they would grow back: WRONG …. SO WRONG! Now, my younger years unibrow obsessions are permanently frozen in time and, on top of having super sparse brows, they are so far between, it’s almost to the center of the eye. If you are just starting tweezing your brows, ask a professional to determine the best line/shape and then, just clean the hairs that grow back.

5 Beauty Tips I Wish I Could Tell My Younger Self

For Pete’s sake, we were so obsessed with tanning, we used to rub baby oil to bronze (I should say “burn”) faster. During my teenage years, no one was talking about sunscreens and the darker we got, the prettier you were consider. Tanning salons were opening everywhere and we still had difficulties just reserving a 30-min period. Years later, I sadly have a ton of wrinkles and I keep having moles removed and tested for cancer (so far so good). Not to scare you but a colleague died at 42 and another one, at just 50 years old, has 3 months to live, all because of Melanomas. My own father and both mother and father-in-law had skin cancers.

It’s a 365 days/year beauty step that you need to incorporate in your routine. I’m telling  you, even in my early forties, I sometimes look like a dry prune. Nowadays, if you still want a bronzy glow, self-tanners have improved and are great, far from the orangey mess we had 10 years ago!

Enjoy Colour

5 Beauty Tips I Wish I Could Tell My Younger Self

For as long as I can remember, when it comes to my makeup, I’ve been a very neutral girl and as I get older, there are more and more trends that are no-nos like glitters, shimmery highlighters, etc. Looking back, I wish I would have been bolder, back when my face was wrinkle-free and my hooded eyes less noticeable. Since it’s just makeup, have some fun and try different techniques and colours. In one word (well 6 actually): GET out of your confort zone!!!

Stop using Salicylic Acid  & Benzoyl Peroxide

5 Beauty Tips I Wish I Could Tell My Younger Self

For years, with my adult acne, I only used oil-free products containing Salicylic Acid & Benzoyl Peroxide and little did I know that they were worsening the problem. For as long as I can remember, I always had dry patches and red spots. I wish someone would have told me about moisturizing my dehydrated skin and stay away from those abrasive products.  Acne-prone products can probably work on a teenager but not on young adults. Just thinking about it, I’m having pimples…

Invest in good skincare more than on makeup

5 Beauty Tips I Wish I Could Tell My Younger Self

I wish I would have started a good morning and nighttime skin regimen when I was younger. Of course, I didn’t have money to spare but it would have been more important to spend a little bit more on better skincare products than let’s say, 10 lipsticks!! In my youth, I just didn’t care and my knowledge was inexistent when skincare was concerned. My own mother only started taking care of her skin in her 50’s… Always remember, a great skin will make any drugstore makeup look like a million bucks!

What is the one beauty you’ve wished you would tell your younger self

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products (April 2017)

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

Today is part 3 of my Sephora VIB sale recommendations series and I will share my TOP 10 Skincare Products available at Sephora. These are all products that work amazingly on my aging, very acne-prone, combination/dry skin. I own all of the products mentioned and paid for all of them!😭

NOTE: Caution: they are EXPENSIVE! But what can I say, they work miracles on my less then perfect skin, so much so that I’m spending my money on these miracle workers, but just not all at once!

TOP 10

1. Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment 🐰

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

I know it’s a pricey product but it really works wonders on my skin. Since I’ve finished my last bottle, I unfortunately vowed to finish other similar acid treatments in my stash and I’ve noticed that my skin is not as beautiful and glowy. The 1.7 oz is $200Cnd (ouch!) but it lasted me almost a year (8 months to be exact). To make it last, I try to use only a tiny bit!

2. Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil 🐰

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

Since the Luna Oil goes hand in hand with Good Genes, I had to buy it 😉! The oil mostly evens out my skin. and in the morning, my skin looks so much brighter. BTW, I must be the only one who doesn’t mind the smell! The 1oz ($135Cnd) lasted about 6 months.

3.  Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturizer 🐰

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

Hands down my favorite nighttime moisturizer ever. In the morning, I swear, my skin feels like a baby’s butt. It can also be used in the morning as it almost acts like a primer under my makeup. Perricone MD skincare line is so great but unfortunately, nobody talks about their products. The 2oz is $85Cnd and this format lasted me more than 6 months since a little goes a long way!

4. Kate Somerville EradiKate 🐰

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

If you suffer from breakouts (mainly tiny pimples and white heads) then you need this pink lotion. Like the name suggests, it will eradicate your acne overnight. I won’t ever be without this lotion as it takes care of my chin hormonal breakouts like a charm (I look less than sexy at night with all my pink dots but heck, at least I look good in the morning!).

5. Origins Plantscription™ Anti-Aging Eye Treatment

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

This eye cream is a recent acquisition and I’m totally in love with the formula. On me, it does one thing: moisturize wonderfully my super dry eye area. I don’t see real anti-aging properties or any fine lines improvements but I don’t care, my eye makeup NEVER looked better than with this eye cream that I use only at night. Well worth the $58Cnd for 0.5oz.

6. Kate Sommerville HydraKate Face Serum 🐰

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

Super expensive price tag ($180Cnd for 1oz) but this serum is mind-blowing. I love how  this serum minimizes my pores and helps to even out my far from perfect skin tone. I also noticed that my acne scars have been fading since I started using this serum.

7. Caudalie Moisturizing Toner

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

This is by far, my favourite toner. It smells absolutely amazing and takes any extra impurities off my face without drying my skin. Loveeeeeeee it. The 13.5oz is $40Cnd.

8. Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 🐰

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

Josie Maran products are big hits or awful misses for me! To be honest, mostly misses but this sunscreen works beautifully on my combo/dry skin and as a bonus, this SPF 47 daily moisturizer has a lovely fragrance (it’s rare). It does have an oily texture but you don’t feel greasy at all after application. It does give a white cast at first but adding foundation changes the colour easily. The end result is a sheer, dewy complexion.

9. Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

I use this face oil for just about everything. I mix it with all kinds of products: with my moisturizers, my foundations or I use it alone for an added hydration. I truly believe this oil helps me keep my skin clear, hydrated and radiant. The 1.6oz bottle ($66Cnd) lasted more than one year.

10.  Dr Jart + Ceramidin™ Cream 🐰

Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations|Top 10 Skincare Products

This cream literally saved my skin this winter. A few months ago, I suffered from very dry patches around my mouth and nose area, and NOTHING seemed to work. I then saw Stephanie Nicole suggesting this cream for dry skin and she was so right! In a matter of days, my skin was soft and has remain that way all winter long. I won’t ever be without this wonder cream; it almost feels like a prescription potion! And a great incentive, this 1.6oz format ($60Cnd) will last me forever…

I could have mentioned so many other wonderful products but these 10 are all Holy Grails and are worth trying. Since they are pricey, this sale is the perfect time to splurge on great products.
