Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 | Holiday 2017

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 | Review & Swatches

Yes my friends, I bit the bullet and purchased the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Volume 3 palette. I’ve been wanting Volume 1 or 2 for so long and always passed, but this one had my name written all over it.

95$CND later, do I love it? Yessssssss. Is it worth it? Yessssssssssssssssssss.

Note: I know that this palette is SADLY out of stock, but I still wanted to review it for you since many of these powders can be purchased individually.

What’s Included

6 pans (mini size), each one containing  0.04oz (Total 0.24 oz) – Made in Italy

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 | Review & Swatches

Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light (neutral peach beige powder), Diffused Light (soft, warm pale yellow powder)
Ambient Lighting Blush in Surreal Halo (deep berry blush fused with surreal light), Pur Effect (bright petal pink fused with a glimmering rose)

Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light (a medium bronze shade fused with Luminous Light for a softer, candlelit warmth)
Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Hypnotic Strobe Light (champagne powder infused with multidimensional pearl)

Great Value?

Is it a good value, the simple answer is NO. By gram of product, this is the worst investment ever. However, I do own full size Hourglass powders and believe me, some take forever to pan, so I see it as having 6 minis which sold separately would have cost a bundle (6 x 32$ = 192$!)

Fair to Light Skin Friendly?

Hourglass products seem to be oriented more towards light to medium skintones. This palette is “darker” than Volume 2 but is still appropriate for light skintones.

Same Formula?

Formula wise, these are exactly the same as their full size counterparts. These powders are simply magical. They blend so easily and give that glow from within. Just a casual warning though: They are addictive, you will want more and more… Another observation: Contrary to some other brands (Tarte, Too Faced just to name a few), I feel that Hourglass doesn’t cheap out and try profit from the Holiday buzz.

Closer Eye On Each Powder

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit – Volume 3 | Review & Swatches

Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Hypnotic Strobe Light: This is the only powder that I’m not madly in love with.  It’s a nice highlighter, but a little too shimmery for my taste. I still use it on the high points of my cheekbones, nose and cupid bow. As a single, I wouldn’t buy a full size as I prefer Laura Mercier (Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact 01) & Kevyn Aucoin (The Celestial Highlighting Powders in Candlelight & Starlight) highlighters .

Ambient Lighting Blush in Surreal Halo & Pur Effect: These blushes are PIGMENTED! On my light skin, I just need to slightly tap my brush in the powder and I have enough product for both my cheeks. It’s a clear shift from my ultimate favorite Hourglass (Ethereal Glow) but I’m digging these A LOT!

Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light: Although my perfect shade from this line is Nude Bronze Light, this one actually works very nice too. I take a small fluffy brush and apply gently on the top of my cheeks and forehead for a very subtle glow.

Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim LightDiffused Light: I own the full size of Dim Light and I use it mainly in summer as a finishing powder all over my face. I feel it gives the nicest fresh glow ever. For Diffused Light, I mostly use it to set my undereye concealer and it’s so pretty. The only problem is that I’m pretty sure I will pan this within 1 to 2 months, since there is already a dent😩. I will likely buy a full size of this one during the next Spring VIB Sale to replace my rapidly shrinking Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder.

I’m totally ga-ga over this beauty. I like the convenience of having 6 different powders in one stunning compact. But keep in mind that you have to use small brushes for a perfect application (I use Sephora Pros Brushes # 74, 79 & 90) since the pans are very small. To put it simply, Hourglass makes one of the most beautiful cruelty-free powders out there. It’s expensive like hell but heck we only live once (I keep telling that to myself and BeardMan – mostly to justify my spending)! 😉

Have a beautiful day my beauties!
