Top 5 Summer Makeup Products ❥ 2016

My Top 5 Summer Makeup

Summer makeup is the best! With my normal Snow White skin look, it’s the only time of the year when I can “fake” a tan without looking totally weird. For this summer, I felt so head over heels in love with 5 products that they might become yearly favorites since I don’t see myself not using them every single day, potentially even for … eternity!

Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Cream

My Top 5 Summer Makeup Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Cream

Dare I say that this product is already in my Top Products of the Year, if not THE product of 2016. This cream contour/bronzer has changed my daily regimen forever! Having discovered this hidden gem, I haven’t used powder formulas for ages, and I’m not sure if I will ever again. I look so much youthful using this cream product compared to powders, it’s like day and night.

I would love say to all of you, especially my mature skinned girlfriends, to run and buy this Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Cream but I won’t! Last Christmas, I bought The Art of Sculpting + Defining palette which was such a great deal. But as I researched on the Sephora website, I found that the only way you can get this Holy Grail is to buy KA’s The Creamy Glow #4 (Sculpting/Candlelight). First, this compact is tiny at 0.16oz total (mine is 0.16oz per product) and secondly, the Candleglow portion is way bigger than my preferred Sculpting Cream. As Candleglow is my least favorite product from Kevyn Aucoin, buying this compact would not be a great investment. My modest recommendation would be to pray that the brand comes out with another special set for this coming holiday season, or as an alternative, go with Soleil Tan de Chanel for the same effect with, in my opinion, a better value than that Creamy Glow.

Note: My favorite brush to apply my cream contour/bronzer is by far my bhcosmetics #114 brush.

Benefit Cosmetics ka-Brow

My Top 5 Summer Makeup Benefit Cosmetics ka-Brow

While I’m an avid fan of light glowy skin in the summer, I still cannot go out without doing my brows. Thanks to Benefit ka-Brow deluxe-samples, I neglected big time my Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Pommade and, truth be told, I don’t know if I will ever go back. In my last weekly recap, I told you about the sample format that really sucks: retrieving products is an enormous pain in the “foufoune” and why the brush? Really… WHY? Let’s be real, nobody will use it… The cream-gel though is fabulous and makes my brows look unbelievably natural while still looking structured. The full-size version is now number one on my wish-list!!! Sorry ABH 😦

UD X Gwen Stefani Blush palette

Top 5 Summer UD X Gwen Stefani Blush Palette

I know it was a Limited Edition and is not available anymore but this little number has been my go-to-palette and the only products I’ve used on my cheeks as of lately. The ones who bought it know what I mean when I say that this palette was totally made for fair skin, Gwen’s look alike (I wish!). Since I’m not one to put a “bam in your face” blush, I can easily apply any of these 6 colors and still look peachy/rosy or glowy without being afraid to look like a clown, the Joker or Marilyn Mansion!

Note: Now I stay away from hyper-pigmented blushes since they look way to obvious on me. Subtle is key here!

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue (SPF 30)

Top 5 Summer bareMinerals Complexion Rescue

I own a lot of good foundations and tinted moisturizers but I’ve been using bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream during summer months for the last two years and it has become indispensable! I use my damp Beauty Blender to apply it and the finish is outstanding. No oxydation, stays put all day long and looks so natural ! It’s a shame that nobody talks about this masterpiece…

Note: For references, my perfect shade is 02 Vanilla! When using this product, I don’t use a moisturizer, as I don’t have the same result if I do. Again using a damp Beauty Blender (Sponge) is totally key for a perfect application.

Buxom Lip Polish and Lip Cream

Top 5 Summer Buxom Lip Polish & Lip Cream

It wouldn’t be a Summer Top 5 if I didn’t mention my Buxom’s favorite Glosses of all-time! With 98 shades of Lip Polish and 11 tints of Lip Cream to choose from, these “kissable lip must-haves” are a summer dream. Leave the matte formulas for the colder months and rediscover glosses which by the way, are more youthful and “surprise surprise “, finally trendy for this year! Buxom lip products are known for their impeccable formula and their great staying power (for a gloss product that is).

Note: My personnal Lip Cream favorites are White Russian and Pink Lady and for the Lip Polish, I prefer Katie, Celeste and Bunny … Well, I love them all but these are exceptionally LOVED 🙂

Project Focus 10 ❥ Buxom Full-On Lip Polish Review

Buxom Lip Polishes

Week 5

Project Focus Winter 2016

Sorry for posting late my beauties, sometimes, Internet and -30 do not go well together it seems. So, without further ado, here is Week 5 of our Project Focus 10, already halfway to this wonderful adventure. If your mind is filled with question marks, you can read my original post (link) here. Be sure to have a look at Joy, Jodi & Stashy’s posts, my friends/collaborators in this interesting venture.

Recap of the Project so far…

First and foremost, if it weren’t for my three amigos in this project, I would have already quit! I realize that I’m easily bored when using the same products over and over or maybe, with Spring just around the corner, I’m already stamping impatiently at the advent of new collections and simply, trying new stuff (All pastel related!).

At the same time, you probably are reading my best reviews since my blogging debut. I used these 10 products so much in the passing weeks that I now have a clear opinion on each, and surprisingly along the way, some have dropped on my rating scale … Week 5 was all about Buxom!

Buxom Full-On Lip Polishes Review

Warning: If I could have only one lip product for the rest of my life, it would be Buxom Full-On Lip Polish. So don’t mind my over-the-top review because it’s LOVE all across the board …

What it is:
A bestselling sheer, shimmering lip gloss with a tingling, plumping effect.

What it does:
For kisses that’ll keep them coming back for more, try this sheer, high-shine lip polish. It creates the look of fuller, more voluptuous lips with a refreshing tingling sensation and gentle plumping effect. Vitamins A and E help keep lips soft, supple, and protected, ensuring your smoothest moves ever.

What else you need to know:
Dolly is a cult favorite, but if you love pinks, go with Katie and Sugar. For a plum obsession, go with Brandi or Gabby. Orange-lovers will gravitate toward Amber and Debbie. Add a splash of sparkle with Clair, Starr, and April.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

Buxom Full-On Lip Polishes Review

♥  Crazy color selection. 99 shades of Full-On Lip Polish to choose from.

♥  They  feel so very smooth on the lips and have that nice “tingly” feeling.

♥ As a lip gloss product, it’s surprisingly very long wearing.

♥ They smell like Vanilla cupcakes (yummy)!

♥ The sets and individual products are so well packaged, it’s adorable!

♥ It makes your lips very very smooth (hydrating), shiny but not too sparkly (which I love).

♥  It has a mint taste that makes you feel so refreshed and just happy.

♥ It’s really versatile: beautiful alone, on top of a lip liner or as a lipstick topper.

White Russian, Dolly & Berry Blast are Full-On Lip Cream

♥ Nothing, Niente, Nada, Rien, Niets.

To be fair, I will just say that there isn’t a big plumping effect on me! Fuller would be more appropriate…

focus55

I love the smooth, non-sticky texture, plus the scent and taste are wonderful.  It feels so refreshing on my lips. I’ve warned you, I ❤️love❤️ these lip polishes. This is a permanent fixture in my makeup bag. I never go without it. Who doesn’t want kissable lips!?!

Buxom… I adore you but come on when will you launch a Ingrid color? A pale pink lavender cool toned 😉(just saying!!!)

Decluttering My Makeup Stash|Winter 2016

Decluttering My Makeup Stash Winter 2016

Since BeardMan and I decided to stay away from DisneyWorld in 2016, I decided to do my second preferred activity in the universe: Decluttering! 😕 Euh… Not really (extreme sarcasm here…). It’s not even spring cleaning time yet but it looks like mine has already begun (In the makeup department that is, since I seem to be less anxious to do the real spring cleaning). In my beauty world, decluttering means literally throwing hard earned money in the garbage. Bad choices or in my case too many choices are the culprit.

Last year, in my first real decluttering attempt, I threw away a lot of items that were expired or just products that just weren’t up to par! Technically speaking, items still in my collection were all great products (Again, sarcasm here…, let’s say acceptable!!!). So this past week, my inner makeup junkie self had a heart-to-heart with my hoarder side and I reflected on two fundamental questions regarding each product in my stash: First, did I use this item in the last 6 months? Second, if I did not use it, do I realistically see myself using this product in the next 6 months? Two « NO » was a death sentence (or a blessing for my niece)!! Anyway it meant that this article and I were parting ways, that our relationship was over 😥…

I’m pleased to tell you that this massive decluttering won’t happen anymore (I hope!) since I’m planning to be less impulsive for my future purchases (Thank you Low-Buy 😘!!!). As I recently defined in a previous post, one of my goals for 2016 is to stop buying products for review purposes unless I’m dying to try a new formula or for specific needs only. So, here are the things that I’m passing along …

Stila Lip Glaze

I bought a set of these last Christmas and I simply don’t like the formula. They have no staying power on my lips and I often don’t reach for them.

Maybelline Vivids Lipsticks

Maybelline lipsticks are one of the best drugstore’s products available. I own lots of them and I’m really pleased but Hot Plum and Fushia Flash were possibly purchase while on drugs (joke 🙊) or for Halloween since bright pinks are not my style at all.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella & Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Stick in Havana

I ADORE both products. I just don’t care for the colors. Might as well pass them along since I won’t ever use them.

Pür Eye Shadow Stick

(Unveiled, Staged & Exposed)

These shadow sticks are surprisingly good! I’m just passing them along since I already have those shades in my preferred Mac Paint Pots.

Maybelline Color Tattoo

(Painted Purple, Barely Branded & Gold Rush)

I love Maybelline Color Tattoo; they are inexpensive (always on sale…) and have a superb finish. Unfortunately, they dry up fast. They are not making the two-hour drive to my niece: in the garbage, they go (Ode to Yoda with this phrase formulation)!

Annabelle Skin True Foundation in Soft Tan

Brand new (still sealed). I have talked about Annabelle’s foundation a great deal on my blog because as a drugstore product, it’s totally my favorite foundation. I bought these shades when I was self-tanning my face (or trying to anyway…)! Since each product broke me out big time and since I moved on from my California babe look, I might just as well send them to one of you (if soft tan is your shade!!!).♥♥♥♥

e.l.f Eyebrow Kit in Medium & Revlon ColorStay Brow Enhancer in Medium Brown & Soft Pink

I’m more on the blonde/taupe side these days so these colors are not suited for me anymore. Furthermore, I really think that investing in great eye brow products is key to achieve exceptional results. As I discovered fantastic Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products in 2015, I’m not really into those two. To be honest the e.l.f does an ok job and the Revlon isn’t that good.

Too Faced A Few Of My Favorites Things

Capture d’écran 2016-01-19 à 13.36.06

This casualty of decluttering is the result of my palette addiction: not that it lacks quality or that the formulation is bad; it is just that all the shadows have big time glitters and are unusable on a daily basis! I should have done my homework and read some reviews before buying it… I sure didn’t make the same mistake this past holiday season!! All these holiday palettes should be bought with caution! Cute, totally adorable but unfortunately, a waste of my money…

Are you decluttering in any way?
