LaSPA Cruelty-Free Mineral Sunscreens | Review

LaSPA Mineral Sunscreens (Curly Spring Blossom Review) - Cruelty-Free

I’m so excited to write about LaSPA sunscreens for two reasons: first, these products are Made in Canada and second, they are totally EXTRAORDINARY!

Truth be told that, these days I’m going wild at the chance to test new sunscreens, more than any other beauty products. After my step dad got treated for a nasty melanoma (skin cancer) on his nose, I saw first hand the damages that this deadly disease can cause. The surgeon took 1/3 off his nose and reconstructive plastic surgery was much needed afterward. Thank god, after all that ordeal, everything looks great and he is in remission. Don’t ever forget that skin cancer is, for the major part, easily PREVENTABLE. If cancer doesn’t scare you my friends maybe looking like a dry prune in your 40’s should do the trick 😉

Sunscreen should part of your morning routine 365 days a year, rain or shine.

For reference: My skin type is combination/dry & very acne prone.

SPF 30 Moisturizing Mineral Sunscreen

(40$Cnd for 2.7oz – Online or at a SPA near you)

LaSPA Mineral Sunscreens (Cruelty-Free) Review

Ingredients:

Each Dose Contains Zinc Oxide 20%

NON-MEDICINAL INGREDIENTS: beeswax, bisabolol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, isoamyl cocoate, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, tocopherols

This product is hands down one of the best face sunscreen I have ever tried. This product totally blew me away and that says a lot since face sunscreens have always been more misses than hits for me.

Pros:

❃ CRUELTY-FREE 🐰 (It’s NOT Vegan because of the beeswax),

❃ Fragrance-free, Gluten-free & hypoallergenic,

❃ Hydrating – perfect for dry skin,

❃ Contains no color, no paraben or chemical UVA\UVB,

❃ Non-greasy* & non-stiky formula,

❃  100% Natural Source Ingredients,

❃ Makes the PERFECT canvas to use under foundations or BB creams,

❃ No white cast (YAY!!!!!),

❃ Doesn’t break me out at all,

❃ This product is sweat and water-resistant for 80 minutes,

❃ TSA (Transportation Security Administration) approved size for plane requirements,

❃ Great value for the amount you get & the quality of the product.

Cons:

❃  For some reason, it doesn’t work great with loose powder foundation. The foundation looks patchy!

❃ I don’t think oily girls would enjoy this VERY hydrating sunscreen.

*** Note: With every sunscreens tested in recent years, after the 10-hour mark, my face starts to feel oily.

When you first open the tube, you see a thick cream and a formula that is a little bit “grainy”; don’t be afraid since magically, the product will melt onto your skin. All of us know that finding a sunscreen that performs beautifully under our makeup is difficult – this one is so good that it even makes my foundation look better as it acts like a primer, a moisturizer and a sunscreen at the same time! I would totally recommend this product if you want to combine great sunscreen properties, more so if you use makeup on a daily basis. It’s a wonderful product!!

LaSPA Mineral Sunscreens (Cruelty-Free) Review

SPF 20 Daily Sun Protection Lotion

(44$Cnd for 4,2oz – Online or at a SPA near you)

Ingredients:

Each Dose Contains Zinc Oxide 14%

NON-MEDICINAL INGREDIENTS: beeswax, bisabolol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, certified organic cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, isoamyl cocoate, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, tocopherols

Pros:

❃ CRUELTY-FREE 🐰 (It’s NOT Vegan because of the beeswax)

❃  100% Natural Source Ingredients,

❃ Fragrance-free, Gluten-free  & hypoallergenic,

❃ Contains no color, no paraben or chemical UVA\UVB,

❃ Non-stiky light formula,

❃ Doesn’t stain my clothes,

❃ Perfect to wear under makeup,

❃ This product is sweat and water-resistant for 80 minutes.

Cons:

❃ It takes some time to dry,

❃ I wish this sunscreen contained a higher SPF – Not a Con per se.

Comparing both products, I prefer LaSpa SPF 30 Moisturizing Mineral Sunscreen since I usually put SPF greater than 30 on my face. That being said, I’ve used this LaSpa SPF 20 Daily Sun Protection Lotion on my neck and neckline for a while now and I do love it a lot, these areas are easier to reapply than redo your full makeup.

Honestly, I had no expectation upon receiving this gorgeous PR Package (#NOT Sponsored) from LaSPA & PK Communications since I didn’t know the brand but it resonated with me and fitted perfectly on my quest to find the best cruelty-free sunscreens available. After testing it regularly, I was pretty excited to share my thoughts. I truly cannot say enough good things on these products! What’s not to love: great value, natural ingredients, made in Canada, cruelty-free & works like a charm under makeup! It’s truly one of the best sunscreen product I’ve used and I’m a LaSpa convert, especially LaSpa SPF30 Moisturizing Mineral Sunscreen, since I prefer better protection and SPF factors.

Important note: Every sunscreens on the market should have an expiration date written on the package if not, don’t buy it. At the same time Spring is a very good time to discard any expired product!

LaSPA Mineral Sunscreens (Cruelty-Free) Review

The difference between Mineral & Synthetic Sunscreens:

Mineral Sunscreens:

There are only two mineral sunscreen ingredients: titanium dioxide and zinc oxide

Begin to work immediately on application, but must be absorbed to be most effective and to ensure they don’t wipe off on clothing.

Have almost no risk of irritating skin.

May leave a white cast, especially on darker skin tones, but the best pure mineral sunscreens go on invisibly.

May need more careful, liberal application because of the way they work in formulas. So, go ahead, slather these on for brilliant protection!

Why Zinc Oxide is better:

Zinc Oxide provides a broad spectrum protection against both UVA/UVB rays whereas chemical filters don’t necessarily provide this function

Zinc Oxide is effective immediately upon application, whereas chemical filters need approximately 20 minutes to be absorbed

Zinc Oxide reduces or eliminates the risk of allergies or skin irritation that can be caused by the chemicals used in chemical sun filters

Zinc Oxide avoids the risk of health issues that have been documented concerning the cumulative effects of chemical sunscreen ingredients on reproductive health (see below for a further discussion on Sunscreen Ingredients).

Synthetic (Chemicals) Sunscreens:

Common synthetic sunscreen ingredients include oxybenzone, octinoxate, octisalate, and avobenzone.

Begin to work immediately on application, but must be absorbed to be most effective and to ensure they don’t wipe off on clothing.

Are generally found in products with thinner textures.

Tend to be preferred for water-resistant formulas because they don’t turn milky-looking when you sweat or get wet. But, as with any sunscreen, you must reapply them often.

Can be sensitizing for those with extra-sensitive skin.

Enjoy the outdoors & the upcoming beautiful summer

Transitioning to Cruelty-Free Makeup & Skincare|Curly Spring Blossom

Transitioning to Cruelty-Free Makeup & Skincare|Curly Spring Blossom

Like stated in my title, I’ve decided to only BUY Cruelty-Free beauty products, unless I can’t find a great CF replacement for a certain category. My goal is not to become a  propaganda blog and show you pictures of what’s going in these testing labs or advocate my personal decision to make this transition! I only want to write about my best discoveries and share them with you.

Why going Cruelty-Free?

Why not!?! Men walked on the moon, we discovered cures for innumerable diseases, we are finding new ways to do things better and faster, we are more aware and concerned about the environment, and large brands still test on animals 🤔?!? I don’t believe that in 2017 there should be any more animal testing; it’s barbaric, cruel and TOTALLY unnecessary. Test on me instead, please!

Which brand will I miss the most?

Makeup wise, I will be crying my eyes out when I’ll pan out my last MAC Paint Pots and my Fix Plus, or all my Make Up For Ever eyeshadows, but other then those, it’s been a breeze. The most challenging part will be skincare and perfumes since half of my favorites are brands that do test on animals.

Did I throw away all my none Cruelty-Free products?

Of course not, it would be stupid to do so and the last I checked, I haven’t found a money tree in my backyard. They’re still great products and some will probably even end up in my empties or favorite products’ posts regardless of my CF passage. Like I previously said, I’m not someone who is rigid in life in general, so I feel alright using my old products, enjoy them and still review them!

Will my blog suffer?

Let’s focus on the positives: with this transition, I’ll give some well-deserved exposure and free press to smaller brands with exceptional products. I’ll also try my best to let you discover some great CF alternatives in the makeup marketplace, if you’re thinking of making the move too. I’ll probably loose some readers but I’ll also gain a few and, honestly, I like to think that views and followers are not the most important aspect of my blogging.

Is it hard or easy?

Ridiculously easy! In fact, I found a ton of new products that I absolutely love. Great Cruelty-Free makeup items are easy to find and surprisingly, I noticed that 75% of my Holy Grail makeup products were already CF! My quest to find replacements for the other 25% fosters an amusing opportunity to get out of my comfort zone! So far, the only products that I can’t seem to find good CF substitutes are eye primers, perfumes & setting sprays. And seriously, it’s been a fun adventure to discover new brands, new products and frankly it’s way easier than I thought. The process is refreshing: after 3 years of blogging, I wanted a new direction and to be excited again about the beauty industry. This move gave me purpose…

Sephora Favorites Scouted by Sephora | A must !!!

♥ The box contains:♥

Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil

(0.13fl oz – Retail Value: 11.70$)

I’m in LOVE. This may be the best face oil I’ve ever tried and there are some amazing products on the market. I can’t believe how it transforms my skin with just 3 simple drops. It takes only that amount to cover my whole face. I will surely buy a full size. This Biossance oil makes my skin look brighter and healthier.

Note: If you are just looking for a great face oil, skip this box and buy the full size. Just WOW!

Lancer Skincare The Method: Nourish

(0.25fl Oz – Retail Value : 23.50$)

The best NIGHTIME moisturizer period. It’s a normal to dry skin saviour. It applies so smoothly and it has a very refreshing scent and feel to it. No breakouts to report and additionally, it doubles as an eye cream. Just sublime! It really makes a difference; my skin looks fantastic.

Note: Works so great after Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil. (Read above)

Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum

(0.27fl Oz – Retail Value: 27$)

Did you watch Stephanie Nicole rave about Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum? I’ve tried Vitamin C serums before and I always get an adverse reaction to them. This product is the ONLY one (so far) that my acne-prone skin tolerates. It actually acts very well by giving my face that glow that we are desperately searching for.

Note: There is a little tingling sensation when you first start using it – this is normal. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen on a daily basis, especially with this product.

Tata Harper Repairative Moisturizer

(0.33fl Oz – Retail Value 27.20$)

Although it may not be the best moisturizer out there, I enjoy it a lot. The natural organic ingredients make it even better. I mix with my foundation (as suggested) and it helps keep my skin hydrated without being too much. Would I buy the full size? I don’t know but I sure will enjoy every last bit of that generous sample.

Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream

(0.8fl Oz – Retail Value: 5.60$)

The  Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is my all time favorite body cream. I’m crazy over the scent. Honestly, that smell is everlasting – I put it at night after my shower and in the morning, the fragrance is still there! To the question: Does it tightens and softens? The answer is a big fat NO, but who cares when it smells that good.

Herbivore Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask

(0.5fl Oz – Retail Value: 13$)

Where have you been all my life??? This mask is unbelievable. This potion is able to clean out my pores and minimizes them significantly (it’s a MIRACLE). I swear, I have less blackheads on my nose. On the extra plus side, it smells yummy!

Note: I only use it on the nose area and my chin since these areas are more problematic and acne prone.

Farmacy Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask with Echinacea GreenEnvy

(0.32fl Oz – Retail Value 5.85$)

A mask with a warming sensation, how cool is that? I like it a lot; not just for that feeling, it really helps reducing breakouts on my chin. This one’s a keeper!!!

Note: If you have ultra sensitive skin, I would suggest you test it on a small area since it could be too strong for you.

IGK Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel

(0.5fl Oz -Retail Value: 3.50$)

This product is a air dry styler for your hair, supposed to bring texture and softness. Unfortunately, nothing extraordinary happened but what can you expect with my crazy mop of hair? Maybe I used it wrong since I mostly let my hair dry naturally. However, I’ve tried it on my ends and it does give a nice effect. I wish it would smell more “coconuty” though 😋.

Total retail value: 117.35$🇨🇦. At 42$ it’s a STEAL!!!!

Sephora Favorites Scouted by Sephora | A must !!!

If you are lucky enough to find this set, buy two! Seriously you won’t regret it. I’m totally smitten with all the products with the exception of the Coconut Oil Gel that is just ok. Each product is sensational (except Tata Harper & IGK) and I WILL buy the full size version when I’ve emptied those beauties! I guess that says a lot…
