Sephora Favorites Trending Beauty Most Coveted Review & Swatches

This new Sephora favorites Trending: Beauty’s Most Coveted is 2016 big set for the Holidays. This kit is based on last year’s SF Superstars, rebranded under a new name, just to confuse us a little bit…  To be honest, I wasn’t very excited about it but, as usual, the little devilish guy sitting on my shoulder played with my mind again, and unfortunately, he seems to REALLY know what to say so, I ordered it … (I’m addicted, I know!!!).

Spoiler: Even if this set is not my cup of tea, it doesn’t mean that it’s not a great buy; in fact I’m sure it’s a great value for money… Let’s do the review, shall we…

the-products

FOREO: LUNA Play (Fushia)

I’ve been using my Clarisonic religiously for the last 5 years now and I love it, but trying this FOREO Luna Play made me wonder: if my Clarisonic died on me tomorrow, which of the two would I buy? For sanitary reasons, I think that the best choice is to go with FOREO. But, since the Luna Play model is just good for 50-100 uses and not rechargeable, it’s mostly a teaser to make us try this little invention. This marketing strategy worked on me since I would switch to their brand but I would prefer their normal and new Luna 2,  which comes with 4 different brushes and is rechargeable with a 2-year limited warranty.

After nearly a week of usage, I can’t say enough about how clean my face feels and how easy (and fun) it is to use it. The cleaning process couldn’t be more amusing; it’s like somebody tickling your face for a few minutes…

Note: Never use any oil-based products or anything with exfoliating beads, because it will ruin the device!

Sephora Favorites Trending: Beauty's Most Coveted Review & Swatches Holiday 2016

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder + Puff

Hands down, my favorite loose setting powder. What’s not to love: Super finely-milled which allows a flawless application, sets my foundation perfectly to the point that I don’t need to do any touch-ups during the day. Worth every penny since all you need is a little bit.

Note: My last full size container lasted two years!

The Puff…

I laughed out loud when I saw the Puff! Come on Sephora, “A puff!”? But, I’m not laughing anymore: this fluffy velour thing is actually super effective! if I have to bloat during the day, here comes the puff.

Note: This puff is machine-wash friendly !

NARS Cosmetics Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard

Unfortunately, the shade Custard is way to dark for my under-eye. On top, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer creases badly on me and makes the area look very cakey. I’m leaning against the wind on this one since a lot of people swears by this concealer!

Note: It’s always hard to satisfy everyone in these kinds of sets, the fair-skinned girls to darker ones (or boys).

Tarte Marine Boosting 4-in-1 Mist

I’ve been really intrigued by this mist since its debut last spring. First thing first, this mist smells AMAZING; the orange aroma alone would keep me applying and reapplying all day long. Secondly, I don’t know about prolonging my makeup but it surely gives my face a great hydration boost.

My favourite ways to apply it is to use it just before my foundation as my primer and during the day, to add moisture to my cold-weather dryer skin. I will be buying the full size version!

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone

Being a fair skin gal, why on earth do I own Opal, Rose Gold and Topaz and not Moonstone or Pearl? It’s totally absurd. Moonstone is unquestionably my favorite in all Becca’s collection It looks very natural and elegant on me, not at all too flashy or flamboyant. Totally smitten!

Beauty Blender Nude

I don’t have to praise how awesome that beauty sponge is… Some dupes may come close but nothing beats the Original Beauty Blender. This little tool makes my BB Creams and Foundations look flawless. Holy Grail status right there!

Glamglow Supermud

I have a love/hate relationship with this mask since my full-sized format dried on me in less than 2 months. I wouldn’t buy it again that’s for sure but I can’t say it’s a bad mask. I do think it does a great job at cleaning pores and diminishing pimples.

Note: With this deluxe size, you barely have enough for 1 use!

Benefit Cosmetics Ka-Brow! (Shade 3)

The first time I used this Cream-Gel, I was blown away. This product has it all and is ideal for makeup addicts-to-be (very beginner-friendly): it blends beautifully, lasts all day, is not too harsh while looking very natural.

Shade 3 is too dark for me since I’m normally Shade 1 but I can manage! However, this deluxe sample format is totally hideous: it’s so hard to retrieve the products and not damage your brow brushes in the process, it’s ridiculous…  Sorry Benefit, but it’s almost unusable!

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in 714 (Mega Matte : Bright Red)

If you have been an avid Curly follower, you surely know how I feel about matte lipsticks and red lipsticks! Since this Urban Decay #714 is both, I will never wear this in public that is, maybe for Halloween or Mickey’s Not-so-Scary Party.

For review purposes only, I wore it two days in a row (stayed at home) and if red is your thing, the shade is a beautiful and very bright red and, even if it’s a matte formula, it surprisingly didn’t feel that drying! The trick is probably to have already super moisturized and exfoliated lips to begin with… All in all, a good formula!

Cover FX Enhance Click in Bubbly (Soft rosy peach shimmer)

Stunning shade but the application is less than stellar! I have to apply it on my cheekbones and then buff it with my contour brush. These days, I prefer creamy products and this one is NOT! There is just no oomph factor! Again, gorgeous color but it’s hard to work with it and almost feels drying on my skin. Not a dud by all means, but surely not a winner either … and so small!

Note: This is a full size product but it is so tiny (cute but tiny).

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper (Satin Black)

I have severe hooded eyes so, me and winged liner are not a match made in heaven!! I however know that this product is a cult-favorite and so many girls only swear by it. I can’t vouch for it but reviews are saying that you can achieve the perfect winged with this liner and that it stays put all day long.

The Estée Edit The Edgiest Kohl Shadowstick (01 Black Viper)

In an ideal world, this shadowstick wouldn’t be pitch black but it is what it is. Once applied, I’m telling you, it doesn’t budge; it also makes a wonderful shadow primer if you like smokey eyes! As for the waterline, it irritates my eyes a lot and the staying power is very short. A good shadowstick without being great, average all across!

hor-or-not

It’s definitely HOT value-wise but take a good look at each product to see which one you will use and which one you will pass along or will collect dust. It’s still a lot of money … For me, the superstar products in that kit are the Beauty Blender, Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder + Puff, Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector, Tarte’s Marine Boosting 4-in-1 Mist and Foreo’s Luna Play (that will only last for three months maximum); the rest is just so-so! Is this set worth the investment? Well, that’s for you to decide, for me it’s just an average buy… No WOW factor!

Will you buy this set ?

Bobbi To Glow Shimmer Brick Palette Holidays 2016 ❄️ Review

Bobbi Brown Bobbi To Glow Shimmer Brick Palette Review

If you’ve read my VIB Sale WishList, you saw that I dream about the Laura Mercier Fall In Love Face Illuminator Collection but then, at a recent Sephora First Look Event, I stumble upon this Bobbi Brown palette and I fell instantly madly in love with this masterpiece. Since it’s my first encounter with Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Bricks, this Holiday palette made sense value-wise. For years, I’ve seen rave reviews about these highlights and surprisingly, as much as I live for Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown on the other hand is a brand that, for some reasons, has eluded me for all those years! So, curiosity killed my wallet, and once again, I couldn’t resist…

Bobbi Brown Bobbi To Glow Shimmer Brick Palette Review

This review is not a first impression; for the last 11 days, I’ve been playing daily with these powders, trying for review purposes, different techniques and ways to apply them. One thing that surprises me is that these highlighters are not buttery whatsoever, in fact they feel almost gritty but they apply like a charm and not patchy (Go figure!).

Note: I think it’s important to specify that my two Holy Grails highlights are Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight and Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder (01 & 02), so now, you know what my preferences are and my comparatives for this review.

pros

♥ The packaging is classy and gorgeous,

♥ This palette comes with a big mirror and the magnetic closing device is pretty strong,

♥ Great for travelling since it’s sturdy,

♥ This palette is made in Italy,

♥ The normal value of this palette is $137Cnd, a net saving of $58Cnd. Always great  to save a few bucks considering the high-end makeup brands,

♥ These are multipurpose powders since you can use them as highlight, bronzer, blush and even eyeshadows,

♥ A little goes a long way if you are using the right brush! I use my Sephora Pro #93 or Anastasia Beverly Hills #23 brushes, and they work like a charm,

♥ Ridiculously good staying powder; seriously, it stays on my skin all day long and doesn’t budge one bit,

♥ Gives a natural glow (radiance),

♥ Not glittery at all – I look like a clown with glittery highlights,

♥ The colors in detail:

Gold

This first color wasn’t love at first sight; way too gold for my skintone and so unnatural. I was so disappointed, I looked like C3PO…  But then, I tried Bobbi Brown’s way which is to apply this powder on the apple of the cheeks and then, you use a matte blush on top. This method totally changed the way I feel about this shade. Totally stunning!

Wild Rose

Wild rose is a superb blush topper that gives you these glowy cheeks that we all want.

Bobbi Brown Bobbi To Glow Shimmer Brick Palette Review

Bronze

This color will now be a staple in my stash; saying it’s beautiful would be an understatement. It totally bronzed my face and looks spectacular, healthy, bronzy; the glow that it gives is truly unique.

Bobbi Brown Bobbi To Glow Shimmer Brick Palette Review

Note: I’ve tried all three as eyeshadows and inner corner highlights and they are unbelievably great and pigmented. Unlimited combos are possible since each slice is a different color.

cons

♥ Pricey, even after saving $58,

♥ On my fair skin, these shades are a bit too dark (at least for Fall and Winter),

♥ These powders can amplify fines lines, texture and wrinkles if applied excessively or on wrong areas.

final-thoughts

There are so many highlighting palettes coming out these days that it’s hard to keep up and personally, since I normally apply just a tiny amount, a compact like this will last a lifetime. It’s hard to compare these Shimmer Bricks powders to my regular, preferred highlights because they are in a class of their own, with their versatility and long-lasting properties. Are they better than my usual Holy Grails from Kevyn Aucoin and Laura Mercier? No, simply because they are very different, almost not comparable. To be honest, I don’t see myself using them on a daily basis this Winter but next Spring, I will get so much use out of them. I can’t stretch enough how breathtaking this palette is and how luxurious these powders make my skin look (trendy and younger looking!). I’m so happy with this purchase, and frankly, I’m surprised it’s not already sold out!

Do you like Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks?

Sephora 2016 VIB Rouge Renewal Gift Exclusive NARS mini blush

This week, as usual, I received my weekly order from Sephora and inside the box was my VIB Rouge welcome blush. My boyfriend asked me what it was and I told him about this special gift, the VIB concept and so on, and then he said this: “So, you are telling me that this tiny blush is what you get for spending a 1000$”!!! I said: “yes” and he looked at me with disbelief and incomprehension… Priceless !

I may as well die and go to heaven (Do they have makeup there?)! This palette is made for me, period. Bobbi Brown shadows are so great that if you are starting with makeup and you are a Nude color lover then, even at this relatively high price ($235Cnd), you will be set for the next 5 years! It’s cheap if you calculate it this way… Beautiful, stunning!! I want it! Christmas present anyone???
